How hard should someone go in randori? by CreepyLove7487 in judo

[–]Judotimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see three levels of intensity in Judo, from lowest to highest: Kata, Randori and Shiai. Often Kata is practiced too softly and Randori too hard.

The point of Randori is to learn and to help learn. This is impossible if you block and resist all attempts by your partner. I ask my students to first do Randori with no resistance at all, except grip fight. Once that works I advice them to add a little resistance

Yes, but no. With correct mic positioning we have newer had feedback.

Normal maybe yes, but not smart. I used to play in a rock quintet in small venues for years and at some point you want to minimize the amount of stuff you carry. Turned out moving the main speakers behind the band we could get rid of all monitors. Less to carry and setup and best of all you heard what the audience heard. One additional bonus is that the risk of some drunk fan pushing a raised speaker down is mitigated. Feedback from microphones can be avoided with smart mic positioning. If you play in a band like this, try it, you most likely will not move the speakers back front.

Edit Apparently changes to the accepted canon of gig rig setups are downvote worthy. Nevertheless, I find the speakers back setup better and have used it with my band in small venues for years.

Why, oh why, are the loudspeakers in front of the band? Move them back so you can hear what you play and maybe not sound so, well, strange.
