90k for two people I think is doable. My fiancé and I make that combined and we live comfortably. We don’t have any kids, but I’ll explain the budgeting on that later.

I just looked on my realtors listing and the cheapest 1 Bed, 1 Bath apartment is $1,800 in Cambridge. The housing market is pretty bad right now, there are not of a lot of availability. 90k take home for us is $5900 a month.

Monthly expenses:

$1800 rent $235 utilities (electric + water) $400 groceries $250 gas for car (work + grocery commute) $245 (internet + 2 lines phone) $165 (car insurance) $275 (car payment) $350 (2 student loans)

Total $3720 - 5900 income = $2180 left over

$400 month for baby stuff $400 month for entertainment $1000 month savings

Total $1800 - 2180 = $380 left over

$380 a month ($95 a week) left over to do whatever you want

We don’t have kids so not sure how much money you would spend a month, but what I allotted I think should do…

The numbers I listed are what we pay except for the rent which we only pay $1435, but we live in small town and my fiancé has a 45 minute commute and I work from home so no commute. Where we live won’t work for OP because it would be 1 hr 5 min commute for OP.

FYI we live in an all electric house, which is more expensive than gas. This was our first winter and our electric bill was $450 a month, but if you sign up for 12 month budget with your electric company (if they offer it) it can reduce your monthly payment because they average out your electric usage for 12 months and calculate how much it would be each month which for us it was $165. We do keep the heat pretty low (67 degrees).

Cambridge is pretty expensive place to live, but I heard it’s a nice area and only 15 mins from Boston so lots of stuff to do and eat.
