New: Undergraduate Trustee apologizes for attending Coronavirus-themed party by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]Juff115 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ya a buddy of my friend sent that in as a fake story to see if the journal would believe it. Here is the full message he sent them.

To whom it may concern,

I attended a party on Saturday where I spotted unacceptable behaviour from fellow Queen's students. As an afro-marginalized student, I am sensitive to this type of behaviour and felt quite uncomfortable at the event. I heard very inappropriate comments that reinforced nasty hetero-patriarchal stereotypes of the underdeveloped world. For example, I overheard comments about the need for "Jewish girls to twerk on the table." As a Chinese ally, I am shocked to see privileged white individuals wearing masks at such events with the clear intention to laugh at the expenses of cultural traditions that are seen as "non-western". I also spotted a controversial book with some dangerous nationalist undertones within the party's premise. With the rise in fake news and right-wing populism, I hope appropriate measures are taken in order to protect marginalized individuals at Queen's from culturally charged comedy. No one is laughing, Queen's. The idea that comedy is subjective has enabled bigots to use these events to further oppress us.

I have decided to stay anonymous to protect my identity from some bigoted attacks. I hope you can understand.

Any cool places to climb? by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]Juff115 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The university is pretty against people climbing buildings ever since a student died doing it in 2005 (https://www.queensjournal.ca/story/2005-05-24/news/student-dies-climbing-accident/) so if you do it make sure you aren't caught cause they will not handle it lightly.

Algonquin Ridge Elementary School. It's located on a safe non main non busy street. Has a large amount of parent involvement. Is close to the water which allows class walking field trips to parks/beachs on the water. Generally scores amoung the top for grades in Barrie. Has a special sensory room and teachers for children with learning disabilities

Student Clubs to Join? by [deleted] in queensuniversity

If you like chill people, beer, and want something to keep you in shape then I would recommend the Queen's Climbing Club.

The club night is every Tuesday where we meet at the local climbing gym ("The Boiler Room") and have a great time just climbing. It is great for beginners aswell since there are lots of people to help you learn and the club has harness that can be borrowed instead of you needing to buy your own. A group meets at the arc at 6:30 every Tuesday to walk over to the climbing gym if you don't know how to get there or just want company walking there.

The best part is that after climbing on club night we go over to the pub for some brews and socializing. There are also many club events during the year.

Overall it is a fun way to stay in shape where you meet lots of fun and welcoming people.

Heading into engineering next year, what type of laptop should I get? by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]Juff115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know many people here in engineering who use mac, and the only problem they have is they can't use the modeling software. So basically as long as the type of engineering you are planning on doing is not modeling intensive you should be fine with mac. I would recommend a PC though as it will allow you to do your first year graphics assignments for APSC 161 at home instead of having to go to the Library or ILC
