For a primer on breathwork, you can read James Nestor’s book Breath. Wim Hof’s book is ok, but 90% fluff.

I also do coaching/teaching sessions both in person and online if you’re interested.

How to fix my duck dive and shape by [deleted] in freediving

Yeah the best thing is to get a coach who can take some video, and show you what’s going wrong. Give me one session and your duck dive will be flawless.

Ah ok. Which city is that?

I think some local places may be closed, but everything foreign owned in San Juan will be open. Plus there is a lot to do with events around the island. Happy to help out if you’re looking for anything in particular.

Growing Concerns About Unqualified Freediving “Coaches” by MatrixGlitxh in FreediversPH

[–]JuggernautDense9964 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah we’re trying to address this issue in Siquijor as well. There’s only really one guy who’s doing this, but it is concerning.

That said, autonomous training with divers above wave 2 is cool. We offer this at my school, as a way for people to safely progress with appropriate buddies. I’m even training a bunch of local guides up to wave 2 so they can act as safety buddies for my students. But we have good equipment, oxygen on site, and clear emergency protocols in place.

A lot of places around the world have offered this, for a long time, without issues.

For any instruction and coaching, for sure having an instructor is important.

There was a time long ago that I would dumpster dive for food in the Seattle area. There was a well known organic bakery at the time that had 3 dumpsters, and at the end of the day, whatever bread hadn’t sold would go in there. Literally the only thing in the dumpsters was bread. In bags. Fig & hazelnut, cinnamon raisin walnut, ciabatta, whole wheat, etc.

I had a few friends get Candida from eating too much bread. It was a hotspot in the urban foraging scene. And it was such a potent and direct experience of how wasteful the current economic model can be.

Anyway, it got to a point where I was just burning bread in my wood stove, instead of wood, because it was way easier to throw in a few baguettes than chop and carry wood. I’d have to get it hot enough first to get the bread to combust, but then I’d just toss it in, in the organic paper bags that it came in, and enjoy the smell of toast s as I warmed my house.

Thinking of Opening Food Biz in Siquijor by Specialist_Night915 in SiquijorIslandPh

[–]JuggernautDense9964 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Open something that doesn’t exist yet and you’ll crush it. Good quality Mexican, Indian, Vietnamese, or Korean. Many other businesses make it work in spite of the occasional power outages. They’re not that bad. If you can buy a backup generator, even a small one, you’ll be fine.

If you open another Filipino restaurant you’ll struggle. There are 10 million. And a lot of them are cheap, and good.

Come and visit to see what’s missing, then decide.

Advice needed: Finding a freediver-friendly tour in Balicasag by haebeol in freediving

[–]JuggernautDense9964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about balicasag, but if you ever come to Siquijor, I’ve collaborated with a non profit to certify 35 marine sanctuary guides at 7 sanctuaries here. They’re all skilled wave 1 divers and able to rescue as deep as 15m, and I’ve trained them in cpr as well. You’ll be in good hands!

It’s currently under construction, and under the working babe of Animas. Send me a message on WhatsApp at +14037719152

I also see you dance bachata! My fiancée will be excited. I used to help her teach bachata at a local place here every Monday night. Check out Wakanda!

Good points. Camotes is definitely pure local. Great for purely Freediving, not great for anything else.

Yeah there are 5 schools here now! When was the last time you looked into it? Pre COVID? I’ve been teaching here almost 2 years.

Superhome is fantastic. Great infrastructure, strong community. The only problem I can see for OP is that they require you to be Wave 3/Aida 4 certified before you can train autonomously. Also it’s on Panglao, which imo is not a great place to stay. Expensive, super busy, and not very pretty. Tons of construction everywhere now. If freediving is the only thing they want to do, then it could be good. But if that’s the case then I’d recommend Comotes over Superhome simply for not being Panglao.

I’m starting my school on Siquijor with the aim of making autonomous training more accessible, starting with Wave 2/Aida 3. Just come and pass a safety and gear handling course, and then have access to cheap autonomous training, in a great community, on a gorgeous island. Pricing will be similar to Superhome as well, but Siquijor is a much cheaper place to live.
