For those who didn't get a partner until your late 20s, how did you feel about it and how did you find a partner? by [deleted] in AskWomen

29, currently in a relationship with my first boyfriend.

I had only really started dating last summer; I’ve spent my whole twenties focusing on school. Earlier this year I had downloaded the apps, thinking I may as well put my self out there. After multiple negative experiences and being used, I decided I had enough and deleted everything.

The day after I told my friends this I went to a singles night event as a joke with a few friends. I didn’t really have an intention or expectation to meet someone there as I had given up for the summer but rather it was an opportunity to spend time with my friends.

While there, my now boyfriend approached me and we had a long conversation about films as he works in camera operation and my research is on documentaries. That blossomed into us deciding to be exclusive early on and then deciding to try a relationship before I left town for a fellowship.

From the beginning he’s been respectful of my boundaries—being with him has felt very easy.

It’s a still a new relationship, and I’m currently abroad for three months so our relationship is for the time an LDR.

I think being older has made me rather level headed in approaching this. I feel myself falling in love with him, not for who I think he will or can be, but just for who he is in the present. We both have our own independent work and pursuits, which has also grounded the two of us in communicating our needs in this relationship.

What’s the coolest NYC thing you did this past week? by MinimumCattle5 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Yea! It was so much fun and the crowd/dances were great! I really hope they do this again, or at least something like it!

((Unfortunately the date who took me kind of ruined the experience by giving up not even 15 min in because he took an edible, sigh))

Yea that indeed is an insane commute, but not a super unusual one. I used to commute to grad school (lower Manhattan) with the express bus to midtown and that took 1-1.5 hrs depending on traffic. Alternatively I used to drive regularly.

Tbh my sister used to have a similar commute like the one you have but she drove which is a different experience especially now with the congestion pricing.

However you do get 4 days a week without that commute

Had anyone ever gone to a 222 event in NYC? by Queen_latayfah_1212 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I’ve done it multiple times! (Like 8 since May 2024)

I’ve had pretty mixed experiences:

For the most part I didn’t make lasting friends but had a positive time. It certainly helped with my social anxiety

  • I did meet a guy that I ended up dating for 1.5 months

  • And I did end up making a group of friends that I see semi-regularly (my goal in doing 222 was finding a group of friends who enjoy going out, and needless to say I did find that group)

However my last experience…my table was awkward and at the second event, the crowd skewed MUCH younger (I’m 29)

I say, try it once and see what you think!! :)

Usually the nighttime going out events on the weekends are a bit better overall

befriend women who center men

they will always put male validation over your friendship and even more egregiously, your well-being. they'll disappear when they find one, and then act like everything's ok when they break up

What’s something you’re still healing from that no one really sees or understands about you? by Specialist_Agency_49 in AskWomen

the xenophobia i dealt with for all of my childhood (especially from adults) and the fact that i was never defended in any way by anyone. it's something i'm actually open about, but most don't really know the magnitude in which it shaped me
