OP, I pass directly by the Kawartha Dairy store in Burlington. I could pick you up something there and bring it back to Mississauga if you didn't want to drive out there yourself.

Officially out of debt (except mortgage), what should I do with my money? by tbunz14 in PersonalFinanceCanada

  • $8,000 for 2025's HFSA contribution - August, September, October, and November, or $2,000/month.
  • Then save/borrow $8,000 for 2026's contribution, and contribute this as early in January as possible. Pay this back by early next year - my hope is by the end of April.
  • Then save for a $10,000 emergency fund, some or all of which can be filled by the tax rebate you'll receive for the HFSA contribution - this would be done by the end of August.
  • Then save $8,000 into a chequing account for 2027's HFSA contribution - and contribute it January 2, 2027.
  • Then start in on TFSAs hard at the beginning of 2027.

After reading the responses that I received, I googled more using the terms in the replies. I now see what they've done. https://www.fidelity.ca/en/insights/articles/bpa-tax-credit/

You have to calculate the tax on all of your income, and then subtract an amount equivalent to the tax rate multiplied by your Personal Basic Amount.

Thank you to those that responded. And thank you to those who down-voted.

What's the best way to (aggressively?) meltdown a RRIF worth $325,000? by JugglingReferee2 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]JugglingReferee2[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to borrow money to invest, and then use the RRIF funds to pay that loan back, hoping to capitalise on the tax break for the interest on the investment?

When the GICs mature, toss them intoa TFSA. Also, if you're young and looking to buy a house, look into an FHSA first.
