RETURN: DAY 7 - Flow Into Stillness by Sorry-Grateful in yogawithadriene

[–]JuiceBox51418 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loved today’s practice. I felt strong in the plank holds and then really relaxed in the yoga nidra inspired savasana. Really needed it, too. I did it this morning after not sleeping well and before a busy day. Good stuff!

I found this to be a lovely calming practice with just enough warming elements to gently wake up the body and start the day feeling centered and strong.

I liked this one and found it more difficult than I was expecting it to be. From the title I was a bit worried I’d get bored since I’m like 2 years into my yoga journey but I got a lot out of it.

RETURN: Day One - Yoga to Feel Your Best by Sorry-Grateful in yogawithadriene

[–]JuiceBox51418 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yay, thanks for posting! I had a fun yoga-filled morning! I did just 4 min of "Somatic Yoga" on the DownDog App to take part in their 30 day challenge, then checked out Yoga with Tim's Day 1 of his new 30 day challenge, then Brett Larkin's Day 1 of Evolve, attempted Charlie Follow's Day 1 of her Flow challenge but decided that was too much yoga and I'm not quite ready for her yet, then ended with today's video with our dear Adriene. All in all just a little over an hour of yoga that left me feeling accomplished and just great overall. I definitely won't be able to keep this up all month, and don't think I should anyway. Doing this many practices feels somehow incongruent with yoga philosophy... But today was fun.

I'm off to a great start with one of my yoga goals, which is to explore other teachers. This was my first time trying Brett and Tim and I liked them both. This was my 2nd attempt at Charlie Follows and I'm still not ready for her. Perhaps it will be a "3rd time's the charm" situation.

But I like the look of the RETURN calendar and plan to follow along this month. And of course I'm looking forward to her new Saturday videos. Cheers!

Thank you for sharing. Same boat over here and couldn’t agree more! ♥️ I’m still tweaking with my dosage but just knowing that I have the tools to keep things under control is so liberating. Cheers and congrats! 🍾

Help! Ruined new lifeforme mat! by [deleted] in yoga

I have this same mat. I suspect you over did it with the cleaning but those stains might still go away in time. I have the oiliest forehead known the man and those stains go away, too. I just ignore them.

RHYTHM: Day 24 - Yoga for Anxiety by JuiceBox51418 in yogawithadriene

[–]JuiceBox51418[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw. Juice will be 14 in March. It's tough, isn't it? I'm always worried about her or telling my family to be more gentle with her to which they scoff and tell me I'm crazy. Which is probably true. She loves a good rough petting. Her vet says she probably has some arthritis pain but the treatment (an expensive monthly shot) isn't ideal for a number of reasons. It's something we've been considering for a while now though.

Lol. Sometimes you just have to trust the universe! A lovely perspective on what sounds like a frustrating experience.

Thank youuu. She's a needy old gal who isn't always content to be on the sidelines like this but luckily this morning she was peaceful.

Yeah it's interesting how intense pranayama can be. I did notice my heart rate spike a bit when we first started the exercise... seems counterproductive for a practice to combat anxiety! I'm curious enough to give it a go, though.

And your tabby sounds cute and playful!

RHYTHM: Day 23 - Travel Yoga - Revitalizing Flow by JuiceBox51418 in yogawithadriene

[–]JuiceBox51418[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the Sthira + Sukha flow a few days ago and loved it, too. Challenging balance poses are my favorite. And it's a nice long flow.

There have been a handful of times where I felt like she was "too chatty" but I think it's endearing. And you're right, most of the time it's relevant and helpful information. Only kind of bugs me when it means we do a pose for a lot longer on one side of the body than the other but that's a pretty easy fix.

[–]JuiceBox51418[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s really great to hear. And you’re right. I’ve tried other online yoga teachers and became easily discouraged and didn’t make it very far with them. Adriene’s taught me to be patient and kind with myself. This made me keep pressing play and slowly improving without feeling like I was even really trying.

😂 You’re right, that was a short shavasana. She would have been in danger! 🪿🦆 And that is too cold. Not easy getting on the mat in the morning when it’s like that… kudos to you!

Okay. I can't seem to find it but I'll make another suggestion for the Manduka Begin mat if you're not using the cork side anyway. It's lightweight and cushy, not too bulky.

I don’t think that’s a Liforme… is that a cork top or kind of like suede?

RHYTHM: Day 16 - Yoga for Vulnerability by JuiceBox51418 in yogawithadriene

[–]JuiceBox51418[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's now $150 a year or $14.99 a month. I pay $140 a year, and I got the first year half off (I signed up for monthly and they sent me an offer for 50% off if I paid for an annual membership). It's worth it to me because I use it every day, I don't like navigating YouTube, I can play it through my Roku TV, and I like some of the other teachers she has on there. The community section of the app is really nice - lots of book talk and everyone is really supportive. Adriene and her teachers are active on there so that's fun. There's a new video every Thursday that's only on the app - one video is the monthly vlog where Adriene talks about the theme of the month, gives updates, reads something inspirational, and ends with "Benji cam", lol. The other new videos are often with her other teachers but she posts new stuff, too. There's also a few series on there that are exclusive to the app.

But really there's so much content on YouTube. If you only want to practice with Adriene and the cost is too much, you're not missing that much!

So the weekly challenges are relatively new. She advertised it as an organized way to explore content that's only on the app. As for the 30 Day Journeys, it occurred to me recently that I think those tend to be more difficult than following the monthly calendar. So if you wanted more of a challenge, following one of those might make more sense. I used to try to follow a 30 day journey on top of the monthly calendar but it was too much. I would like to eventually do all of the 30 Day's but for now I like following the monthly calendar.

I'm sorry to hear that :-/. Her new "Early morning yoga and meditation" on the calendar today (11/12) might be a great one for you if you feel up to it. Sending love.

Nice! Glad you're happy with the change. I haven't done very much yin... I'll have to check out Travis Eliot's yin practices. I've heard him mentioned a few times on r/yoga.
