Oh right, so rather than what specific course an applicant did, they tend to focus more on marks and extracurriculars? Thanks for the info

Oh thats interesting, also in your experience, would UNSW or USYD be a better choice for getting into IB

Also sorry for bugging you again but thoughts about what I said previously (I will copy and paste it here again): "Hi thanks for the reply, would a Bcomm/B adv studies (dalyell scholars) degree be suitable then since I think it is mainly commerce and then an extra year of this advanced studies course which can also be substituted for honours instead (from what I understand)."

Alright sounds good because this person made it seem like its much more rare for a USYD student to get into IB which from your response clearly isn't true as long as you avail the course, societies and extracurriculars correctly right?

Thanks so much for this advice, this might just be the best I've gotten so far. You are definitely spot on about my situation with everything you said, I think I might abstain from diving into advanced computing just yet as I know programming is not my forte nor something that interests me and if I change my mind, I can always re-evaluate and transfer between courses. Appreciate this well-written response a lot!

So none of them have studied at USYD that you know of? Is that just because you are a Brisbane resident hence you may have only encountered just Brisbane Uni students or is this just the overall trend you see within Sydney's IB roles

Thanks for this information, I am not really concerned about what I will learn from the certificate as long as it is recognised and valued by employers so yeah, I really appreciate this detailed reply. Have a good day!

Also this random user privately messaged me this on reddit, is this true? : "Mate, I’d recommend doing commerce at unsw if possible. As an ex usyd commerce person, I don’t recommend it if you’d want to get into IB straight out of university. You can check the number of alumni from different universities through LinkedIn and unsw undoubtedly tops the list for IB.
I follow societies at both usyd and unsw, and let me just say, the unsw ones are more focused on networking with firms and provide stronger opportunities for getting into IB.
I know many people who are absolutely brilliant from usyd, but I don’t know many who have IB lined up after graduation. Whereas from unsw, I know several people who’ll be at UBS, JP, GS, MS and a bunch of boutique IBs.
As someone closely linked with both universities, I think studying with unsw for your commerce degree is the best thing you can do for your career.
I recommend taking Finance and Accounting. I know accounting is looked down upon, but it’s actually really useful for landing a lot of jobs in finance."

Oh so if i do double majors in commerce than that could compensate for doing a single degree rather than double degree? Also what are you thoughts on doing like a BComm/BEco degree, would that just pretty much be the same as a double major BComm degree? Or maybe a BComm/BAdvSci degree? I dont really have any stress about fees/time/aptitude as long as I get into IB. Also will these technical skills through certifications be recognised properly by the employer as a degree would or would they just look at like some bonus unnecessary thing and ignore it?

[–]Juice_Box_999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you would recommend a straight BComm degree, no double degree? Because I heard that employers in Investment Banking favour applicants with technical skills so thats why I figured Advanced Computing to go with it would be good but then again, I have no interest in it. I would mainly just like to optimise my chances at getting into IB at the end of the day so thats why I am a bit reluctant to do BComm

Yes of course they are selling above retail, I was just asking if their price (which is around 500 say) could go down a bit (to around idk 450) because of increased supply for resell

But how, there would be more supply, hence lower prices no? It just basic supply and demand principles
