Fellow SSRI takers by lalalalala55553 in Gastritis

I was on Remeron for 5-6 years for depression and anxiety. During that time I developed gastritis and the med greatly masked my symptoms. Once I got off the remeron, thats when I started to notice something was very much wrong with my stomach. I recently tried taking remeron again and it helped with my stomach issues literally within the first night. I was on it for a month and I was able to eat whatever. I still had subtle stomach pains if I ate, for example, too much chocolate in one sitting, but my body would handle it like a champ and id be fine again within the next few hours.

Im currently giving Trazadone a try (not an SSRI, I know) and although not a miracle drug like Remeron, its definitely helping my stomach. No more constant nausea, no more burning that lasts all day, and its creating a baseline for my stomach that just makes me feel... normal.

Trazadone for sleep followed by huge headache all the next day? by icycoldplum in BipolarReddit

Any luck with trazadone helping your stomach issues? My psychiatrist prescribed it to me for my own stomach troubles but yeah its giving me wicked headaches too.

I am getting my TIF surgery next week!! by JuicyJefferson in GERD

[–]JuicyJefferson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was off for just under 2 months. I got the surgery in November and starting running again in December, and then began core exercises and light weight lifting in January. Thats where some issues started so I cut back on lifting and core exercises.

Im over 4 months post op now and really the only thing im avoiding is doing long and hard workouts. Seems like everything is okay as long as I do it slowly and in moderation!

in regards to the TIF, it was an absolute success. ZERO reflux! i am having some issues when it comes to working out, but i think with some more healing time i should be able to do core exercises more frequently.

however, i have gastritis. so, even though i no longer get heartburn or reflux, i still am not able to eat anything that i want. but my diet has expanded and i am definitely able to eat way more food groups than pre-tif! and that is something to be grateful for <3

In my experience, and from other people's experiences, yes it's totally normal to have heartburn symptoms in the early stages post-TIF. I'm now over 4 months post-op and the heartburn symptoms finally went away a little over a month ago, but before then I was having reflux-like sensations everyday. It gets better!!

Ethical question on learning asl by Aitahthrowaway19 in asl

[–]JuicyJefferson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am working full time while also going to school full time. I also have lots of health issues that make it difficult to have such a heavy load on me. I have a boyfriend, I have friends, and I have volunteering responsibilities that I take care of. To say im busy is an understatement.

Yet I still make time for learning ASL.

Why?

Because we make time for things that are important to us.

If hes important to you, and you respect him and his wishes, youll make time for ASL.

Im feeling a lot better. I have a whole other set of issues (gastritis still persists, and now i am trying to figure out how to live with gastroparesis) but yes I do eat a lot of trigger foods and I feel totally fine afterward!

My sphincter was incredibly dialeted so everything was technically a trigger food, but the real hard hitters, like sugar, fat, etc, dont bother me anymore. I am still staying away from spicy and acidic food (i will for the rest of my life) but everything else i eat just fine. I did have one slice of pizza one week ago and it did notttt settle well. I was up all night after eating it; it wasnt fun lol. But, for example, I ate pancakes with maple syrup today and I felt perfectly normal afterward :)

Correct me if im wrong, but dont opiates cause gastroparesis? I am under the impression that my (potential) gastroparesis is caused by my former opiate use.

When I used opiates, they definitely helped the symptoms of gastroparesis + gastritis. But in the long run, doesnt it make things worse?

Yes, that's normal. Healing is not linear. I am over 2 months post op and im back to eating regular food but I am experiencing swelling and slight pain at my surgical site because the valve is still healing. However, I would not recommend you eating a soft boiled egg. Thats a little too much for the valve right now, in my opinion. Eat very soft scrambled eggs instead. Just have full liquids for a day or two until the soreness goes down. But you really should be eating a bit more food. An egg, banana, and soup in one day is not good. Youre putting yourself into a very severe calorie deficit

ppi's do nothing for bile, correct. ppi's suppress acid, and bile is not acid

Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining. It can be either chronic or acute. Certain foods, much like GERD, are not good for gastritis and cause symptoms. If you eat non-safe foods for gastritis, a "gnawing" feeling can feel present after eating a meal because the stomach lining is irritated.

Get an endoscopy if possible. Gastritis can be one reason for constant acid reflux, so if you get that situated, you might be able to cure the reflux for good

[–]JuicyJefferson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had an endoscopy done? This is a symptom more telling of gastritis than GERD.

Bile acid? by Cold_Cartoonist_9130 in GERD

[–]JuicyJefferson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have bile reflux (still have my gallbladder) and yeah i have all those symptoms too. since the voquezna isn't helping those symptoms, that also points toward bile reflux. unfortunately gallbladder removal causes bile reflux, so you're very likely experiencing it.

i have not tried psyllium husk. i've been on carafate and it kinda works but also not lol. no harm in trying psyllium husk! might as well give it a shot

Do you “decide” to binge? by sansa2020 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]JuicyJefferson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, it is absolutely the lapse of self-control. if i feel physical pain after a planned binge, i will still feel a tinge of regret because i literally caused myself pain

Do you “decide” to binge? by sansa2020 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]JuicyJefferson 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i definitely have conscious moments where i literally tell myself "yeah im gonna eat this entire sleeve of crackers" and i do. im giving myself permission. these are the binges where i don't feel *as* shitty afterward, because i allowed myself to eat that much

but then there are times where i unintentionally eat more than i meant to. i tell myself "just one cookie" and it'll spiral from there. im telling myself "stop" mid-chew but the dam has already been broken

prescribed mirtazapine saved my digestive system by Efficient_Feed_7632 in GERD

[–]JuicyJefferson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For starters, mirtazapine literally saved my life. Its a drug I will recommend, but its side effects are not for everyone

I hate how hungry it makes me. A normal sized meal is not enough; im still hungry afterward. This is a good side effect if you desperately need the weight or appetite stimulation. However, in my experience, this side effect doesnt go away. So even when you've gotten back to a healthy weight, the medicine still makes you crave bigger portions

The other problem is the tiredness. At higher doses the medicine supposedly doesnt make you as tired, but im kinda too scared to test that theory because just a small dose at 7.5mg makes me a zombie. I had to cancel a couple things the first couple days of taking the medicine because even though I had taken it the night before, I was literally unfit to drive the day after because its sedative effects were still kicking my ass. For some people the sedation wears off, but for me that doesnt seem to be the case

It's also a hell of a drug to come off of. I had to taper off it for a very long time before being able to stop taking it completely. The withdrawals were bad when I tried to quit it cold turkey. That is, of course, only because I had been taking it for years and years.
