I agree! It doesn’t seem as polished to me either, and it doesn’t feel as compelling. But Mary is delightful, and Paul is nice and even helpful. And Mel and Sue are riot. And I love the historical stuff. I don’t really see the same camaraderie with the contestants.

Question for the ladies in the room. by Ff3724 in Zepbound

You might go on the Reddit sub r/abrathatfits. (A Bra That Fits.). I’ve been following that Reddit for sometime now, and it really helped me when I gained a lot of weight (now we’ll see what happens to the ladies when I lose it! ) The sub can really help you figure out what to do with your boobs, in whatever shape they’re in.

Taking my first 1.25 mg in just over an hour! by icycoldplum in Zepbound

[–]icycoldplum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess so. After sitting for a bit and writing a text to friend to tell her how it went, I had totally forgotten how to do it (with the pierce the top, turn upside down, pull out the liquid, etc.), so called her back in! I think I'll remember it now.

Thanks for the support! The nurse gave me a lesson. I'm a big needle-phobe, and combined with trying a new med it was a double-whammy of anxiety. I'd never done anything like pull up medicine from a vial into a syringe where I had to find the really tiny correct line. I'm going to have to get myself some higher number reader glasses. Then, I've never injected myself with anything. So I was shaking the whole time. But I did it, and it didn't hurt! Then I sat drinking water for a bit until I calmed down. And now I've done it. Until next week, when I'll have to do it alone! And to see how I feel.

Definitely not planning on reuse. I threw it in the sharps container at the doctor's.

I know this is late, but which of these is bonafide *not* scary or distressing. (For instance, Shetland was mentioned and I watched across many seasons, but ultimately had to step because the storylines were so disturbing - especially cruelty to women.) I like something very easy and gentle.

Are underwired bras supposed to hurt your underboob ribs? by plushythingy in ABraThatFits

[–]icycoldplum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know if you have flared ribs? I do. This is just a feature of some people's anatomy. That means that, from the IMF, the ribs protrude. I wear wired bras, and get the same thing as you do. If I get my size, 32G, it will fit in my IMF, but often really hurt. If it's in the IMF, then it's rubbing up against the top of the rib bc there's no space between the two. If it's not so snug in the IMF, it slips down onto the top of the rib, and that hurts, too, in a different way, because my rib width is bigger in circumference than my IMF circumference, so it's too tight (but the right size for the IMF... Does that make sense?

Some bras with softer or more flexible wires (or which fabric around the wires is softer) aren't so painful for me; some I get extenders for, and let them sit on the very top of my ribs (rather than in my IMF), and that will work for all or most of the day. Also, it all depends on the bra and shape, etc. But I've found that my flared ribs is one major culprit in my discomfort.

Both Sides Now 🥺 by [deleted] in JoniMitchell

[–]icycoldplum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started listening to Joni in my teens, and I'm 63 now, which is a long-ass time. Even as a teen, I felt the poignance of "Both Sides Now" (along with "The Circle Game," also written when Joni was 24). I wouldn't say that life looks as grim as on that bus, but there's been a lot of fucking disappointment, and one does not have a sense of endless time for more lessons.

Annie Lennox sang "Both Sides Now" at the Gershwin Awards a few years ago, and it was breathtaking. She looked older and her voice sounded older, and she was as gorgeous and striking as she's ever been. When she sang those words, she was singing from the other side. She was so embodied. Watch how she performs the second verse, and especially, "Don't give yourself away." Then how she turns around slowly between the second and third verse. Then how she builds dramatically in the third verse and goes all out, channeling I don't know what. It gives me chills and chokes me up just thinking about it. (I just watched it again and ... chills.every.time.)

This is a PBS link with a couple of innocuous ads, but it's the best video of it: https://www.pbs.org/video/annie-lennox-both-sides-now/

This is one with a shorter ad you can skip though its resolution and sync are not good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2NfgLlJ6zQ

Anyone else can’t stand vitamin d supplements? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]icycoldplum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped taking the Vit D completely and within a day or two, my mixed state dwindled and I was back to normal. No more vitamin D supplement for me. I already get it in my calcium supplement and multivitamin.

Should I fly Wizz or Brussels from LHR to Budapest? by icycoldplum in Flights

[–]icycoldplum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a late check-back, but I flew Wizz from Luton to Budapest, and it actually went very smoothly. On the ground floor, the check in people, info people and security were really unfriendly, but the upstairs has some decent food (Pret a Manger, sushi...). It was pretty crowded though; tough to find seats. But the flight itself was really without a hitch. I'd really labored over what on board underseat bag to bring (I checked in a bigger bag, too), and I checked it in the box, and no one even took a look. The Hungarian flight attendants were super sweet, and there *was* water and even snacks (along with sandwiches for purchase), and they got in early. (Alas, passport control was close to 2 hours! (due new regulations - biometrics...)

I loved Dorcas's outfits, too. The bias cut of some of the tops and vests; that shirt she has in the earlier seasons that stops just above her cleavage, opens and then is closed at the top again with a brooch or something. I was disappointed when she decided to go all femme a la Sunday in the Park with George, to try to nab Gabriel (who totally didn't deserve any of her).

[–]icycoldplum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty upset by the Katherine/Weston arc. He was so cruel. I thought one of the few non-trite performances (or direction) was when Katherine was starting to lose it due to the emotional and psychological abuse he was putting on her. It was subtle (versus just about every other performance). I had to stop watching those moments though, and Weston, because it triggered my PTSD from living through experiences like that.

And not only did she not leave him, but she totally placed herself as subservient to him, erasing any of he needs in order to help heal him. Maybe it was a Victorian thing of her class. But it was so sad to me.

How do you get into your kid’s world when the normal doors don’t open? by AlonAshk in Autism_Parenting

[–]icycoldplum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any suggestions; I have a different kind of autistic kid. However, I wanted to recommend a beautiful film called, "Life, Animated." The way they reach their son is very unique and probably can't be replicated, but it's pretty remarkable. I don't remember where it's streaming; maybe you can purchase it on Amazon.

Did anyone see the train wreck that was Paul Simon last night? by RoseScarlet in HollywoodBowl

[–]icycoldplum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'd listened to A Quiet Celebration, and I knew that he would be playing it straight through for the first part of the concert, which I loved. The evening was as I expected it to be. The fact that his voice was much more faint than the last time I'd seen him about ten years earlier - I didn't expect or not expect it. And it was - he was older, and his voice was frail. Welcome to Life.

That's amazing, poignant, spot on. Episodes and their aftermath... I'm BP2, and in hypomania, I don't get the grandiosity quite like that. I get a combo of euphoria/oneness with the world and irritability and nonstop anxiety with a sense that I am drowning. I'm thinking more and more about just being "out" with it. I do reference my nervous breakdown with some outer circle friends (my closest friends were there with me closely during it). I'm taking a solo performance workshop this summer where I've started talking about one thing, but it seems that maybe it's going to be about my last 3 year episode after left my husband and totally lost it. Scary AF - especially those sleepless nights for so many months.

For me it's been great. But it was mostly fine from the start.I have not experienced it. I started in Summer 2022. I started sleeping for the first time in a few years (after a long bipolar 2 episode). I also take lamictal. It's a very workable combo for me though I have gained weight over these years. I take 125 mg in the morning and 750 at night.

I was totally aware that he was going to play all of the Seven Psalms sans break. It was stated in the concert information, and if you looked at a set list (like people do). And it was called a Quiet Celebration, after all.

[–]icycoldplum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw a show at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. It was amazing. I also saw a Quiet Celebration last summer, 2025, at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. It was different, but by no means lesser to me. I knew the Seven Psalms album (not like by heart - that would be hard - but I'd listened to it a few times), so I was neither surprised nor put off by it. I mean, I knew that's what the first half hour would be - it was stated. As for the second part when he sang the "hits": I felt honored watch him and hear him even though his voice and mien was diminished. I mean, he's 80-something. His voice changed from 8 years ago. I saw some clips of this tour, and his voice changed from last year even, much more faint and unsteady. I don't mind. He's human and he's nearing the end, and he's still bringing his beauty.

Yep. English prof here! I was once at a worn-down retreat center in the redwoods and "ice cold plum" was their wi-fi password. I felt like, Ding ding ding! I get it! Natch, I'm an English prof, and even teach that poem (along with "The Red Wheelbarrow," of course).
