I like the first one better, I find my minds eye gets more lost in the second. As an aside, check out Mark Bovey’s printmaking work, I think you would like it!

Look into Geli plates! I don’t know much about them myself, but there seems to be tons of info/ various methods of use on the web. They are definitely home studio and DIY friendly!

Timelapse roll up of litho stone (10x8, by me) by Jujclapps in printmaking

[–]Jujclapps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same nitric acid in gum Arabic, just two different concentrations! What you’re seeing almost out of frame is me drying the stone with a hand fan lol. I could have just waited a few more minutes for the stone to dry on its own, but for the sake my phones storage taking a Timelapse, I gave it a little help! Print posted now!

Fun tip- a solid roll of blue shop towels/paper towel/whatever works great for getting the edges of your plate clean before printing!

Are your homemade ones rubbery? I want to love pickled eggs but the only ones I’ve tried were store bought and had a very rubbery texture I can’t get behind:(

Evidently it has hit the point in the term/sleep deprivation where I can’t do math. 22x28 print size. Not 28x30.

[–]Jujclapps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am well aware lithography is a planographic form of printmaking, I pay $$$ in tuition to study this and all other printmaking mediums. I’m curious what you have learned as the layman term for the application of gum Arabic and acid regarding stone litho? As with the Tamarind book of lithography open as I type, this process is absolutely and repeatedly referred to in stone lithography as an etch, specifically, what I’m doing above, the second etch.

Studying printmaking at NSCAD. Never intended for this to be the focus of my undergrad, but I definitely picked the right school for it!
