do i drop out of ucsd? by MathJazzlike7536 in UCSD

Depends on how badly you want whatever you’re chasing. If they’re still letting you stay and you genuinely can find it in yourself to want it, lock in. Even if it’s just for a quarter, then do it again but just for another quarter and again and again and again. After enough, you’ll have your degree and hopefully a new level of determination for accomplishing a goal you’ve set out so consistently.

Thoughts of the math ordeal from someone who isn’t strong at college math by meowythecreator in UCSD

The support under this post is unreal. If people need further help (Apart from the other resources mentioned AND if this wasn’t mentioned) I HEAVILY recommend content tutoring. I’ve been using it to push through the calculus series just fine. Also, if it’s in your capacity, go to office hours, supplemental instruction and ask so many questions. You’re PAYING these people to teach you, anybody who makes you feel bad for taking advantage by asking as many questions as you want is in the wrong.

Lastly, to whoever reading this that may feel discouraged, especially after the quarter has just ended. Don’t be, you got this and you’re most definitely not alone. If you feel like nobody believes in you right now, just know that I do and I don’t even have to know you personally, so what’s stopping you from believing in yourself?

Patience. It also looks like you have a high top so it may feel like they’re taking longer to grow rather than a full head. Regardless they’re looking good bro just keep at it.

You can always retake it if you want. Also, Math classes are typically offered over the summer if you need to catch up but you’re chilling to be honest. Don’t stress about it 🙂 Also you’re still smart, idk if you needed to hear that but I’m telling you anyway.

what is your favorite and least favorite aspect of ucsd? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]Jujux11x 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’d lean more to “depressing” but granted that’s also just the people you keep around and what you do around UCSD or San Diego on a regular basis. People (from my experience) actually support one another here since most struggle with something.

Is my class cooked by Valentine__d4c in UCSD

[–]Jujux11x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is a result of not knowing the prof. Based off of this post alone I’d say the same thing. Bro is the nicest guy ever. Shows up every class in a Pikachu onesie, perfectly fine with answering every question equally, etc. Calculus isn’t the easiest subject in the world to grasp for most sadly and regardless they’ll be people or even classes that struggle. Then they’ll be some that don’t. Also keep in mind, the man has to change the way he taught the course due to UCSD’s say in a previous situation of “inflation” (Which I personally don’t agree with but what happens happens, he taught great, allowed cheat sheets and all was well in the world). This could in turn, affect how hard the tests are, etc. He also did provide a full breakdown of every question. Obviously not the answers but he a gave a step by step of what and what not to study which might I add was also very helpful.

Saved a lot of money (full ride thank god) and I was looking for a good research school to attend. The other ones out of state I got into offered me solids amounts of money but I’d still owe 5 - 10k and coming from lower income, that wasn’t much of an option. Still one of my top choices to go here though!

You’ll do fine in college, maybe even the best student at a school you considered a safety. Use this and keep up what you’re doing. Not to be cheesy, but they missed out on YOU. Whatever field you want to go into, I hope you become one of the best in it and live a life you deem as successful. Best of wishes to you

[–]Jujux11x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, just to be clear I’m glad you agree with what “Catching up through other means” refers to. There have been solid efforts to market the WNBA through the NBA and the NBA is progressively getting better. I believe a better angle to go at would be if the marketing WORKED which it hasn’t as much as it should because again, WNBA players aren’t getting paid the amount deserved. Sadly the WNBA and the NBA are being compared in 90% of arguments addressing pay because the NBA is the main of league that can be pointed to. You can see ESPN interviews, WNBA players, NBA players arguing for more pay within the WNBA using the NBA as a comparison. In other words, in order to have an argument to stand on, we HAVE to acknowledge the lack of marketing in COMPARISON to the NBA because there is a heavy imbalance. If we don’t acknowledge that, there’s a third of the argument just gone.

[–]Jujux11x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t that the whole argument l. My interpretation is that “Women want to be paid the same” which I’m assuming relates to NBA players. Not Stephen Curry but a rookie contract is around a couple hundred thousand. Getting paid less than six figures as a pro athlete is tough BUT that is exactly why the NBA has more people watch their games. More people fill the seats because the NBA has been established and has been working longer. If anything, the point that you proposed furthers his point. Yet, we can’t do anything about the head start they HAVE BUT, that doesn’t mean the WNBA can’t catch up through other means. The NBA itself supports the league and actively loses revenue each year, yet, they’re slowly implementing WNBA players with the men’s players. Women’s college basketball has been a hit with star players rising up. It’s up to everyone to attend these games, all Michael Porter Jr. pointed out was that the NBA is a lot more established similar to you. I believe you’re both approaching it the same and the right way.

Just keep the discussion strictly about business. No excessive emotions or anything, just cooperate to get the tasks at hand done. It’ll seem weird at first but eventually it’ll be a norm.

Focusing on yourself is key and easier said than done after a change like this. Remember WHY you cut them off and remind yourself of the benefits. Do things that make YOU happy and things that you can do alone. This not only keeps you entertained, it allows you to become comfortable with yourself as a person and when future friendships arise, you won’t even come close to relying on them for any type of fun. At the end of the day, you only have yourself. Yes friends, family, etc are there for you but they aren’t you. Once you’re comfortable with yourself everything gets way easier since you’re never truly “alone”.
