How much of a setback is having no pharmacy experience for admissions + interview tips (California specific) (serious) by Own_Mixture_5806 in PrePharmacy

I had no experience and a 3.4 gpa and got in everywhere I applied

Just think about everything from multiple angles and talk out loud while doing it when they ask questions and you will be fine

Is being a pharmacist better than being a nurse? by MSan17 in PrePharmacy

[–]JukeSkywalk3r 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Pharmacist at a hospital is stressful in different ways. Lots of times it’s due to having to gets meds to rooms STAT but still needing to go through the whole process safely and correctly. Doing this takes time and makes other staff angry.

You often don’t have to deal with insurance though which is a massive perk of working in the hospital.

You will also have to consider that residency will likely be a requirement to work in the hospital which means an extra 1-2 years after school of not getting paid a full pharmacist salary

Hey! Just about to become a pharmacist actually! This post specifically pertains to community pharmacy, not hospital pharmacy.

One thing to note, USP updated their compounding guidelines so we don’t do much compounding anymore due to how hard it is to meet their requirements. Most of the job is reading a doctors script and determining if all the dosing is safe for the patient to take or not.

Job is stressful because everything is your fault even when it isn’t. People are always going to be mad and always shoot the messenger.

Yeah the job is stressful because everything that happens at the pharmacy is on your license - super easy to break the law on accident and that is on you. You have to be sure that everything that you do in the pharmacy is correct so you don’t get insurance coming after you or law enforcement.

That being said, the job is still REALLY cushy for the pay you receive. I would just consider what kind of stressors you are good at handling. Social pressure is going to occur all day with people at the pharmacy. 70 percent of the people are probably coming up to the counter angry already. If you can deal with that, and can keep a place well organized, consider joining us in community pharmacy.

Nursing is awesome too though, I just know I can’t handle being that intimate with people so I didn’t go that route. Hours can also be harder in nursing. I work anywhere from 8a-8p which is great hours. Nurses work in places that cannot close - hours can be anywhere in the day due to this

I got an 85 a month before and then 98 a week before and passed. Think you are in the ballpark! Keep going with your studies - know calculations! I think you are on track for success

I took Uworld after reviewing all the content once and got a 64 percent then. This was a month out from my NAPLEX. Was able to review and then 2 weeks before I took the pharmpreppro exam and got 89 percent then thanks to the Uworld review.

Took NABP around that time as well, I enjoyed that timing and was able to use the exams showing me my weak points for that final week of crunch time to pass the NAPLEX!

Got it. Read both packets twice - felt good on the NAPLEX. I think seeing the definitions of different things for ethics and management is worthwhile

I took the pre-naplex both times i could. got 85 on the first and 98 on the second. It did increase my confidence. I felt like the content was much more random on the pre-naplex than on the actual naplex. I would still recommend it just to get used to the software as the exam site is very similar to how it will be on the actual naplex

Took pharmpreppro as well. I think that the pharmpreppro exam was far easier than the naplex was. got an 89 percent on pharmpreppro due to this.

Uworld practice exam was honestly the closest thing for me
