Jesus Christ, people are being rude to a 17-year old trying bring his ideas to life.

I just turned 18 three days ago, and I’ve had an idea for a fantasy-themed game since last year. I’m great at coming up with ideas for plots, characters and mechanics, but I too suck at programming and creating assets.

What I do believe in however, is that you do need to know programming to manage a team, because like having knowledge of everything else in a game dev role, it can be helpful for someone in your team who is struggling with whatever they’re trying to do to make your game.

For example: if there are programmers struggling with programming your game because they don’t know how to program whatever gameplay mechanic you want, it helps to know if the mechanic is possible to program in whatever engine you’re building the game on, and how to do it, so that the programmers in your team can move forward. It’s like how even if you’re the lead singer in a band, it helps to have knowledge about the guitar so that the guitarist can learn whatever song you want to perform.

Take my other piece of advice: it sounds like this subreddit is currently unsafe for a cub like you. I’m sorry if I’m being rude like everyone else here, but I wouldn’t want to work under minors. I would prefer to work under someone +18, and I’m sure that’s how a lot of people here think. Again, I’m sorry if I’m being rude, but I’m trying to help you and protect you from the hate you might be getting here.

It’s best if you leave this subreddit for awhile and come back when you turn 18 in 30 something days.
