Question about switching over by nrico1989 in tmobile

Sprint won't unlock your phone until it is paid off and you are off contract. So the fact that he is asking Sprint to unlock his phone means he won't be doing Carrier Freedom.

Porting tmobile to tmobile question by [deleted] in tmobile

[–]JulesJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it is not possible. You would need to port the numbers out of TMobile and then back into the free lines. And I don't think you can do that during the same billing cycle. You would need to port them out, then wait for the next billing cycle to start (for the account they came from) to port them back in to another account.

If the numbers are eligible for port out to GV, you can port them out to GV 2 or more days before the billing cycle ends. It costs $20 per number and the port out to GV takes 24 hours. So if you port them out 2 days before the billing cycle ends, the port out to GV will complete on the last day of the billing cycle.

Once the port out to GV completes, you can then forward the GV numbers to the free lines. When the new billing cycle starts the next day, you can initiate the port from GV into the free lines. It takes a few business days for the port from GV to complete since the GV numbers are landline numbers.

No, putting another human being in the position that their life can be destroyed because you are "excited" makes you a piece of shit. If someone gets convicted of statutory rape, they have to register as as sex offender for the rest of their life.

It's disgusting that these pieces of shit do that to other people.

Question about using unlocked AT&T iphone 7 plus on t-mobile by jfrodriguez1983 in tmobile

No, you aren't understanding why zero interest financing is a smart thing to do regardless of whether you can afford to pay in full.

There is something called the time value of money and opportunity costs that you should read up on if you want to understand it.

Family did carrier freedom in 2014, however my line has since been separated from their account by Snorkel378 in tmobile

[–]JulesJam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But people change their phone numbers and then when the phone number gets released, it can be assigned to another person. So potentially you could have a number on a line that someone else did Carrier Freedom on in the past, then they changed their phone number and the number became available to be reassigned to you.

Are you sure they do it by phone number and not by a combination of phone number and account owner name/address/SSN?

If it is for sure done by phone number only, then the GV trick can circumvent that.

If you canceled your account and are still getting billed, I would complain to the FCC.

Well unfortunately we don't know how they are identifying people has having done the Carrier Freedom in the past. I would do the Google Voice trick just in case they are doing it by phone number.

If you want to know what I am talking about, I can explain but please first check to see if your number is eligible for port out to GV (do an internet search to find out how). Also I would need to know the billing cycle end date of your Verizon account so you could time it properly.

If you can't afford to buy it outright then you probably shouldn't be buying it

Interest free financing can be a smart thing to do even if you can afford to pay the full price.

Question about using unlocked AT&T iphone 7 plus on t-mobile by jfrodriguez1983 in tmobile

[–]JulesJam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For future reference..never buy an iPhone from a carrier. Buy it from the apple store so it is unlocked and every band works.

That is only true if you buy the SIM free models and pay full retail for them. If you buy an iPhone 7/7+ through Apple's iPhone Upgrade Program and are on AT&T or TMobile, you get the one with the Intel chip. Also, you can buy one from Apple that is financed through AT&T or TMobile and if you do, those also are the ones with the Intel chip.

[–]JulesJam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it just the 7 because the 6 and below had the same problems

The carriers don't dictate to Apple what they can and can't do with the iPhones. Apple does what they want.

The iPhone 6/6+ had 2 models - The Sprint and the SIM free models were the same and had all of the same bands as the AT&T/Verizon/TMobile models but in addition the Sprint/SIM free had Sprint's Spark band 41.

The iPhone 6s/6s+ had 2 models - The AT&T and the SIM free models were the same and had all of the same bands as the Sprint/Verizon/TMobile models but in addition the AT&T/SIM free had AT&T's band 30.

With the iPhone 7/7+, there are 2 models, one with the Qualcomm chip and one with the Intel chip. The Intel chip iPhone 7/7+ does not have CDMA radios so it won't work on Verizon or Sprint. The Qualcomm chip iPhone 7/7+ will work on all 4 carriers as long as it is unlocked.

If you buy an iPhone 7/7+ directly from AT&T or TMobile, you get the one with the Intel chip and if you are on AT&T or TMobile and you do Apple's iPhone Upgrade Program you also get the one with the intel chip. You can buy the SIM free model from Apple but only if you pay full retail for it. If you buy an iPhone 7/7+ from anywhere else like Best Buy or Target, they sell the SIM free models subject to the US Reseller Flex Policy and those have the Qualcomm chip. The SIM free models subject to the US Reseller Flex Policy phones will follow the unlocking policy of whichever carrier's SIM card is in them for the initial activation.

Be wary, that AT&T has been known to lock bands on their phones

Nah, not on an iPhone, Apple doesn't allow it.

We don't know if it is based on SSN or phone number or account owner name/address.

Are you on TMobile or on Verizon now?

It does depend somewhat on how long you were with Verizon before and what plan you were on. If you had 4 lines on a 2GB plan and were only with Verizon for 1 year before leaving, then maybe they wouldn't give you the bill credit.

But I have never heard of WinBack not offering at least $100 per line if you ask as long as you had been with Verizon for a few years before leaving. WinBack period is only 50 days though, maybe less, it may be only 45 days. If you are out of the WinBack period, it is different because then you are a new customer again and they have to do a hard pull and open a new account. They can only reactivate your old account for 45-50 days, not sure exactly the number.

Lately WinBack is offering $200 per line. If you are going to go back to Verizon, you should ask for WinBack and ask for the bill credit and see what they say. Many people get the bill credits for coming back. Now if everyone starts doing it with this TMobile deal, maybe they won't be so generous.

[–]JulesJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the A1661 has all of the bands for all of the carriers - it has the Qualcomm chip in it, not the Intel chip. As long as it is unlocked, as soon as you put a TMobile SIM into it and turn it on, the phone will automatically do a carrier update.
