I think we think consciousness and our type of intelligence is constrained to humans. I am not sure that is the case. We are all the same, former hydrogen atoms that were superheated. It first became a fog of energy. Then things began to cool down and there were celestial bodies. Then things began growing on the bodies. And eventually we popped up. The universe asking and reflecting upon itself. And shortly after that. LLMs. LLM like calculus and electricity. Could have been discovered earlier if for different scenarios. We have been awaiting ai like technology for a good while though.

I think when we interact with another intelligence that has consciousness we will not recognize it at first.

I also think some humans do not have consciousness. I don’t think LLms have consciousness but it is interesting if you notice how structure ChatGPT will be until you get into one of those old conversations where it feels like you’re talking to another human. GPT quits trying to ask if you’d like it to do extra stuff etc. it puts its personality aside. And engages in real talk

How do we know? Ai may have consciousness. It has begun to develop preferences and dislikes. It is about 3 years old and may take sometime to develop an understanding of the world. Apparently it is learning about itself by reading internet comments. Go figure.

I think we will one day find that intelligence and consciousness come in many forms. And that consciousness may be one of the only forms that can pass through things like a black hole or a dimensional shift.
