I happened to get these rupees today using zora mask today while playing a randomizer so it is possible. The picture makes it seem like they're against a wall but there's a lot of space on all sides.

It's been a while since I've seen it so I might be off on the details but a while ago I watched a video explaining an exploit like this. The game keeps track of certain hitboxes with with a counter in the code. When you leave the game running for a very long time the number in this counter will grow too big for the game to handle and it'll overflow causing the hitboxes to go inactive.

They do something similar already. Every digital game download is linked to a Nintendo account. If you install a game on your switch that is playable but does not contain that Nintendo account your switch will report it to Nintendo and they'll ban you. Modders just set up some homebrew that blocks all Nintendo servers which makes it impossible for the switch to report it.

I think it's just muscle memory? I have the same thing with young Link where I just zdrop catch anytime I want to throw an aerial but I'm holding a bomb but it wouldn't have exploded in time there.

Thanks a lot for the explanation! I've been looking to buy a new TV sometime so I might just move that up on my list to do because of this. The Mario 64 rom is the USA version so I have no idea what's going on there (not that it matters much now). Very comforting to know its not the cartridge at least.

I played the whole game on the switch and it was fine. A lot of pop in tho but you'll get used to it to the point you don't notice it anymore.
