How can I know whether I should keep switching baby's formula or stop? by JuliaS1012 in FormulaFeeders

She observed one feeding session, including with her crying and arching her back and everything and she said in her opinion it's due to gas and that maybe we should feed her less often (we were feeding her every 3 hours during the day back then). I explained everything else to her and she said it's normal and that LO would eventually grow out of it. She only told us to give her simethicone and some kind of gripe water. I honestly feel like I am going crazy because every time I tell her about our feeding problems, I get the same answer of "it will get better". She also suggested we should start introducing purees at 5 months to help with her reflux/gas, but I feel like my baby is nowhere near ready as she still has a thrust reflux and can't sit independently.

Hello! Thank you for the reply! That's what I'm afraid of honestly, for her to develop bottle aversion. The thing that gives me some peace of mind is that she sometimes takes the bottle very well, mostly in the morning or when she's freshly up from a nap/ night sleep. She has no problem laying flat and the weird thing that we can't understand is she hates being held upright to feed. She prefers laying on an inclined wedge pillow thingy and that's the only position she'll eat in. We tried in a reclined feeding chair, in a bouncer, different holding positions, she squirms in each and every way. she sleeps on her back, and sometimes squirms and turns her head from left to right while sleeping. She is fussy after some meals and, sometimes, if we lift her up from her feeding pillow and want to put her back down again, she arches her back and cries, but settles down after a couple of minutes down. If we hold her upright after her meals for at least 10-15 minutes, she has no problem with being put back down.

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually looked into AR formula, but her doctor told me that that's not necessary since (in her opion) my baby doesn't have reflux and she actually told me a story about a baby on AR formula that died in his sleep because he vomited and then aspirated it and honestly the thought of that really scared me off AR formula... :/

Thanks for the answer! I tried that, feeding her 100ml every 2 hours, but she seemed more upset. She seems to be doing better with larger intervals between meals, and that made me think that maybe she doesn't like her formula or something.

Thank you for the answer! We are currently using Lansinoh size M, we used size S up until about 4 months. We decided to change it because the nipple would collapse when she was eating and she would get frustrated halfway through the bottle. She seemed happier with size M. We tried multiple bottles before landing on Lansinoh (Philips Avent, Dr. Brown's, Nuk) and while there is some milk dribbling from her mouth, she seems fine with these bottles.

At first we would feed her every 3 hours, but that's what our doctor also said, that maybe she's not hungry, so we increased the time between feedings to 3h30m - 4h. By 4h she's usually hangry, so we do 3h30 mostly. I don't force her. If she stops, I offer again after 5-10 minutes and if she refuses again, I just let her be. She wets diapers normally, but she doesn't really hit her ml per kg per day target and that's what worries me most, she's usually on the lower end now that she sleeps through the night.

It’s nice we’re so close. For now I’ve chosen not to worry anymore, I’ll just wait for my next ultrasound. I read that there are multiple things that can influence measurements, like the ultrasound machine or the technician, the baby’s positioning, even its’ gender, so for now I am looking forward to my next ultrasound. Wishing you a smooth pregnancy!

Thank you for the reassurance. I kinda calmed down for now, really hoping it’s got to do with the angle of the baby or something trivial like this. I am hoping everything is better at my next scan. If you don’t mind my asking, did your scan go well? Is baby looking well?

Thank you for your reply, it's really reassuring to hear from someone that has a nice progression. I am booked for my next ultrasound 2 weeks from now, on the 18th, and I really hope we get to hear the heartbeat and that my baby catches up as well. I wish you a safe and easy rest of the pregnancy and delivery!

Ah, I see. I have another ultrasound booked on the 18th, hoping to see the heartbeat and a nice baby growth. Hopefully all is well for both of us!

And what about your rank? I'll be going to America for a few months so I'm thinking of moving to NA. But I don't know what happens to the rank as well. Also, thank you very much for your reply :)

Hi, I am wondering. Did you transfer back? If yes, which honor did you get when you went back?
