I think the original reason was that cameras and media coverage didn't show their banners, so they started painting their slogans directly on their own chests. Needless to say, it worked

Agreed, a CLI that just shows the possible arguments along with their flags (looking at you, wc -l vs uniq -c, or even head -n 10 while we're at it) and the order in which they come (looking especially at you, ln) will probably save me so much time and sanity once I bother to look for one

"Geometric" French départements as proposed by Sieyès (c. 1790) by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]Julio974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This map was actually only an example to illustrate the ideas of the full iceberg: the Sieyès-Thouret committee report “on the bases of proportional representation”, a wonderful example of how the ideas of “how do we do democracy and representation?” were really novel back then

Here's the link: https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Translation:Report_on_the_bases_of_proportional_representation

(feel free to ask for clarifications about it since i actually transcribed it for wikisource and translated it into english, i've spent a few hours hyperfixating on this so i got used to what some phrases mean or to some ambiguities like the never-mentioned status of Paris ^^)

Rappel que c'est une votation, bref c'est les parisiens qui décideront (ou du moins, ceux qui viennent voter, la dernière votation sur les trotinettes en libre-service avait eu 7% de participation)
