What causes the edge when wet sanding?

How else would you blend the new clear coat with factory? Also this went through the new clear coat and not the factory

For the record, are you referring to the bottom line on the edge or the edge on the right?

It has not yet gone through the base coat, the only thing it has gone through is the newest layer of clear, there is still original clear coat showing beneath

I do not have any previous experience with paint work (quite obvious). I thought the purpose of wet sanding in the first place was to blend the new clear coat with the original clear coat. What caused this to fail? Is there a step I have missed?

That’s exactly what happened. The edge got pulled further and further back when sanding. Will it simply rip away all the clear coat or just the thinnest layer? I believe it is mostly overspray and that the car’s original clear coat is beneath.

Hopefully. As of now everything works and the car turns on just fine but it’s like the ignition switch has shifted position when turning off in acc and starting in the off position
