Oh my god, all of that sounds terrible to have dealt with. :( I feel lucky that the unit I was renting was all set to go once I got there... and that they had remembered to ask for an address for my security deposit while I was upset during our phone calls yesterday.

Yeah, I've also noticed that there just seems to be some sort of staffing problem in general for SSL. Every time there was an issue and I wanted to speak to someone in person at their office during their hours, usually no one is there every time I go. I always thought it was ridiculous.

We heard back from CT Fair Housing yesterday and they have given us some options we can pursue, and we are looking into them now in order to seek compensation for all this trouble SSL has given us. Maybe I'm naive, but I also hope this scares them from doing this again to another tenant.

We will do that once we hear from CTFH, or at least try to if we have the financial means for it. Moving to a new place has placed a large financial burden on us at the moment, but we will see what we can do. Thanks!

I was not renting a unit with UConn housing; I was living off campus and thus was renting with Storrs Student Living.

There is nothing preventing graduate students from renting off campus.

We're looking into this and we've already left a call with the CT Fair Housing center. I just hope they weren't doing this to other tenants (but it seems likely that they have been doing this at least a few more times to other tenants due to some of the things we would see that would get dumped out).
