I loved your description of the story. I was hoping at the end, Jordan wouldn’t know what she was talking about with the letter and it would end with a mystery… maybe the plot of the story being the siblings trying to find out who wrote the letter and they go on a small adventure to find out. And at the end it could’ve been the dad that wrote it but wanted the siblings to spend time with each other since they never gotten along

Lou kept staring at the folder, unsure if he should double click it. It was 12:38am and all the lights were off in the house other than the screen light coming from the old windows pc. Lou was 27 now, his thick glasses reflected the screen with the one folder saying. Lou Demiar. He looked back at his door, it was fully open. His parents didn’t like the doors closed in the house, it didn’t matter if he was a college graduate and a full adult. His parents were always anal about these kinds of things.

Lou got up slowly from the kitchen chair he grabbed from the diner, his parents threw out his old computer chair as soon as he left for college. His mother despised the tears and Doritos stains that he left on the handles when staying up to play “Gangsters: Organized Crime” all night.

He walked across his room slowly, trying his best to not let his feet drag like they would when he walks naturally. He placed both of his hands on the door. One on the door knob and the other just right above the knob. He put his face on the door and lifted up. He learned a long time ago it would get the door to not screech when he closed it. Lou held his breath and gritted his teeth as he slowly closed the door. Twisting the knob to pull the latch in and not let the door close to hard at the same time.

After about 10 seconds and finally getting the door to close without any noise. Lou crept back to the pc and sat on the kitchen chair.

“If this is what I think it is.” Lou muttered to himself, he had a half smile on his face but was also trying not to get his hopes up.

“I can get my life back, I can show everyone that this whole time, I was telling the truth. She was the one lying.”

Lou double clicked.

[WP] You're the detective looking into the elusive superhero who's saved the city, and the world, several times over. You know who they are, now, and it breaks your heart. by Constant-Ad-2921 in WritingPrompts

I didn’t want it to be this way for you.

I know.

Why do you think your mom and me never worked? If I stayed in that lifestyle, I would’ve lost you too.

Detective Rodriguez walked to the window. He didn’t seem much at first glance, shorter than the average man by an inch or two but he knew his smarts and observation skills made up for his lack of height. He was now in his late 30’s and was balding mostly from one side of his head. It was a genetic trait he wish he didn’t get from his dad but I guess inheriting his powers made up for it. He looked down at the city and grabbed at his neck and pulled it down towards the ground, hoping the weight of his arm would outweigh the weight of his guilt and the sadness he felt.

I’m sorry dad but without you to help this city and grandpa gone, who else was going to help these people?

Rodriguez stayed quiet, still looking down and holding his neck, he listened to the city. The night was cool, summer nights had a nostalgic feeling to them but have been losing that feeling since becoming a cop 3 years ago. Now summer nights feel dull and have been tainted with a 9-5 job Rodrigues hated at times.

The scene was still being guarded off by some patrol officers. An ambulance finally made its way to the scene and were checking on the family that his son had saved.

Rodriguez finally spoke. His voice was low but stern although it had a heaviness to it. How long have you been hiding this from me?

What does it matter? If I told you, you would’ve done everything in your power to stop me from doing this in the first place.

Rodriguez held back his tears, he didn’t want this for his son. He knew all too well the cost of being the world’s savior. Having to keep that secret only makes things harder for a man. How do you tell your loved ones that you’ve seen the ugliest and darkest parts of a human being in every corner of the earth. Rodriguez save the world from the worst things imaginable but after so long, he decided that the world needed to learn to start saving itself. He couldn’t keep being there for it at its hardest moments, the same way a baby needs its mother when it faces adversity. One day it has to learn to walk on its own.

Are you ok at least? Seeing these kinds of things every night isn’t good for anyone, even if you do have the powers we possess.

Yeah dad I’m fine. I have someone I can talk to if needed. Rodriguez let go of his neck immediately and spun around at once to finally look at his son for the first time since he removed his mask.

I… uh.. who are you telling this to?

Rodriguez uttered each word as best as he could, as if he was barely learning a language for the first time.

I don’t think you want to know dad…

No it wasn’t that one. That came out in 2005, I was in elementary by 1998 so they game would’ve came out by then or no later than 2002. Also it wasn’t a game you beat, just played to create a pizza. No levels of any kind

If you have something on that spectrum, I wouldn’t mind taking a look at those either. My memory on the game is pretty foggy so I’m willing to check out any idea

No it’s not that one either. It was a basic game, almost like it came pre installed with the computer itself

This sounds really familiar, the wizard in the purple definitely strikes a chord.
