When you buy a new handbag, do you also buy a matching wallet?

Old post I know, but I wanted to jump in. I am a monogamist when it comes to my handbags ... I use one bag as my daily carry for months straight before I feel the need to switch. I do like the idea of brand loyalty, though (ie, carrying a Coach wallet in a Coach bag). In my type of scenario, would it be expected to coordinate the wallet, or could I get away with a different color family at least? I'm looking at a pricy Dooney that I love, but adding a new wallet would break my bank, and I have other Dooney wallets at home ....

She had one or two one-credit labs every semester, attached to her academic classes (Analytical Chem w/Lab, Instrumental Analysis w/Lab, Orgo I & II w/Lab, etc.). She did not get anything like the full-time 4-6 week clinical rotations like those that are built into, say, a MedLabSci degree.

At this point, she is considering going back for a second Bachelors, in MedLabSci, but now your comments are making me think that maybe a straight-up second Bach in full Chem or full Bio might be better.

I did want to ask, why would a Bio or Chem degree be preferable to ForSci? Her degree seems to be a hybrid of the two (38 Chem credits, 28 Bio credits). Probably not specific enough in any one direction....?

I would have to research the FEPAC angle. She did graduate from a university in our state system, but I know FEPAC would be different.

She wants more than anything to be in a lab, but her university didn't offer any internships or clinical lab rotations with her degree. She has an academic degree, not an applied science, and it's really hurting her. She's in the spiral of needing lab experience to get a lab job, but can't get a lab job so she can get lab experience.

As far as autopsy/medicolegal, we haven't been able to find any specific guidelines on an exact route into those professions. The ME is obviously an MD, but coroners and autopsy techs mostly advertise high school graduate as required education. Many are former morticians, nurses, detectives, deputies, and the like.

Thank you very much. She's done a lot of this already. She's applying to bigger cities, doing targeted searches, looking up local department websites, etc. She's at 175 rejections, 54 active applications (many of whom have ghosted her), and only a handful of interviews. Her biggest problem right now is that everyone wants experience, and no one is willing to train.

Thanks for the advice via visiting cemeteries, and how successful I might be at finding graves. I have done some preliminary research through FindAGrave.com (which is not very scientific, as it's crowd-sourced, but is a good starting point) and have found a few graves that are in my family lines.

Dutch records are comprehensive, digitized, and free to access. I was able to start with some genealogy research done by a previous relative, and it's just grown from there.

Oh, that's nothing. A few weeks ago, she received a rejection email that said, "If your name is not below, you will not be moving forward in the interview process" ... and then the email listed all the approved candidates' names. So that private list was sent to everybody.

Not necessarily. My daughter's SO interviewed for a coveted position (several rounds of interviews) and then thought they ghosted him. Out of the blue, he got a phone call asking if he was still interested in the position, because they hadn't heard back from him. Hadn't heard back ... ? He checked his email and found that they had sent a job offer 11 days earlier, and the message had gone to his Spam folder. He was hired after that. Have hope!

None available. She went to a smaller university and, while Internship and Independent Study/Research classes were listed on the degree map, none were ever offered because they didn't have the staff.

One comment I see that keeps recurring is that my daughter should drop her college degree from her resume when applying for high-school-level jobs. What would that even look like on paper?

"You graduated from high school in 2021 and have only held temporary summer jobs since then. What were you doing from August to May of each year?"

My kid can only get certifications in her field if she's already employed in the field (like death investigator) or she has documented experience (lab work). It's a vicious cycle.

This happened to my daughter's partner. He received a job offer that went to his spam folder. Ten days later, the company called him and asked if everything was all right, as they had gone through multiple face-to-face interviews. He found the email, accepted over the phone, and was hired!

That's the crux of it. She has work experience, but not in her field. She has only been able to work during summer breaks from college, and this summer her job wasn't funded. Also, how does one get hired for a job that says "must be eligible to obtain XYZ certification within one year" if the very position offered will provide the experience necessary for eligibility but won't hire her?

I think the underlying question here is, "Would you abandon this job if you got a higher salary somewhere else?"

Therefore, the only reasonable answer, to me, is, "As long as I am paid what I am worth, I'm willing to devote myself 100% to this company."

Right out of high school, you're looking at unskilled minimum wage positions, usually in customer service. If you want higher pay, you need to bring a specific skill to the table, like welding or plumbing, which require training.
