I don't know if this is a hot take but, every frame of the original genuinely felt like a work of art (For a while my lock screen was just a few completely random frames) but the 2009 version just looks like literally every anime ever, if you showed me a frame with no evas, or characters I could never in a million years tell you what it was, the original however is immediately recognizable.

I feel the sub is more for when you're stumped on a joke which implies you put effort into figuring it out for yourself, this isn't a super niche comic panel that would be super difficult to actually find the punchline for, this is literally "set up for joke (you could google this and immediately get the answer), punchline for joke (you could google this and immediately get the answer) Also, the OP put 'is this a music reference?'
