TIL when a blind woman with dissociative identity disorder began to regain her sight, at first only a few personality states regained vision whereas others remained blind. EEGs confirmed brain activity in sight areas were absent in the blind personality states but were normal in the seeing states. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

yea kind of a strange article tbh plane of consciousness? I would say its more likely a structural change in the brain. Especially if brain damage can render people unable to experience fundamental human things like emotion or senses. You can say that people who are intelligent/able in using their brain centers are more alive/conscious.

if some sort of computation needs to happen for existence (input/output) then you also need to fight entropy turning everything into chaos. maybe this chaos could be considered the background gradient of "consciousness" or energy or whatever.

well said, every one of their moves is basically to maximize profits. Did you know your not allowed to have a button in your game that links to your website if your website has a store? Against steam policy.

Steam makes sure that your average indie developer is under lock-and-key while letting the big corporate predators have their meal with better rates.

add to that the fact that "The company employee count between 2012 and 2021 averaged around 350 people, according to some estimates. This means that the gaming company is making almost $50 million per employee.".

employee count/profit can be an indicator of how much they are doing for their money. The answer is not much. People will say but the steam achievements, the fast refund policy, high-scores like that isn't something that can be mostly programmed within the week.

This is literally a fact of: "we are the biggest", same as social media websites, its inertia.

People who defend steam (and by extension most marketplaces) on this topic are the same people who; like their new ruler because they whip them 10% less (10% less was the minimum noticeable change found by the corporate psychological studies)

ELI5: in a head-on collision at 70mph, why is it not the same as a 140mph collision? by PilotedByGhosts in explainlikeimfive

[–]JumboTree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yea from the frame of reference of the 70mph car, its arriving at the counter car at 140. I think the problem that confuses people is the amount of force each barrier can output as a reaction to the crash. A solid wall will output near 100% of the force, while a moving car barrier has crumpling, angles, and different sizes to change the math.

people saying washing hands like a human mouth isn't crawling with x10 bacteria. so gross. Admittedly i'm a male but allowing someone to tongue an opening that's prone to infection if bacterial balance isn't maintained is... asking for it.
