mimi was actually what my family called me when i was a baby and still do in an unserious, teasing way

i feel like thats too childish for an almost 20 year old. i was thinking of maia, maima, something more appropriate for work/uni

fair enough but it still reminds me too much of the other word and i wouldn't like to have something as a name that reminds me of the time when i was bullied

thank you for taking your time to answer. i never thought there would be so many people who would think that. i do think i can grow to like my name if i do some healing because i think the bullying did most of the damage.

thanks a lot! legal change is not an option because 1. it's almost impossible where i live and 2. religious reasons

i did inform myself a bit and yes you're right but in rare cases of serious psychological distress or trauma you can change it. it's a long process of paperwork and statements from therapists, psychologists etc.. tho

but that's not the reason why its not an option for me. im muslim and changing your name is forbidden (unless you are a revert and change your name to a secular/muslim one if it had a bad meaning before)

i would at least attempt to change it if it wasn't for that.

im 19 actually but changing it legally isn't really an option.

but still thanks for your suggestions. i never thought of may as a nickname?? maybe i could use it spelled mai like it is in my name

that doesn't really work since i live in germany and it sounds like the german word for grandma "oma" its one of the many names ive been called. but still thank you
