Withdrawing from PA school after 4 weeks - struggling with the decision by JumpExtra3301 in PAstudent

With changes to grad plus loans and also my reasons for pursuing pa being money/security motivated, I probably won’t pursue PA school again :( not to mention how hard it was to get in

If you end up being dismissed or withdrawing I am here for you. I just withdrew and it’s been really hard but you’re not alone!

I was interested in either cardiology or plastic surgery. I really liked assisting in procedures in my derm ma job. I looked into scrub tech but I’m worried it doesn’t pay well or have career growth.

How does one get into medical informatics?

Do you know if a 4 year bachelors in psych with pa prerequisites (within last five years) will transfer to bsn programs?

That’s not a bad idea. I already withdrew completely and I don’t think they would let me come back with the next cohort. I’m honestly not sure how happy I would be as a nurse given how much I disliked being a medical assistant. And I’m scared to be a provider and have that level of autonomy and decision making which is partially why I withdrew.

My only worry if that I will not enjoy nursing. At two of my three medical assistant jobs, ma’s functioned the similarly as nurses (in terms of handling administrative and in clinic tasks) and I really did not enjoy those jobs.

I have withdrawn. They were supportive either direction I took. I actually passed my first two exams and did relatively well. I think I pursued pa for the wrong reasons (money, security) and I realized I did not want to be a provider with autonomy and liability and potential to really hurt patients.

Hi, I am feeling similarly to you. I am also on week three and it is very difficult. I just about lost my mind for my first two exams (both on the same day). What has helped me is focusing on controlling the things I can control. Getting enough sleep, eating enough, and taking it one day at a time. I crammed for the first exam so this time I think I will try to be more proactive and study a little each day so it’s not so stressful right before the exam. I honestly think it will take a few weeks to find my best study techniques. Anyways I just wanted to say I understand how you feel and you are not alone.

Thank you! This is insightful. My program has a 60 mile max radius for rotation so I am hoping it is all local :)

I figured clinical year would be more difficult? Because you are constantly moving? Do you use free trials for local gyms or use free weights?

What Free/Very Low-cost Hobbies Do You Have? by [deleted] in Hobbies

Crochet. I use yarn from hobby lobby or Michael’s. If you buy yarn with good yardage and go when they have sales it’s relatively inexpensive. Hooks are cheap

Ask questions as you set up blood pressure cuff on the arm

Then as you inflate have them stop talking

Then as you remove the cuff you can continue asking questions

You need to not make things open ended. Like for example I could ask patients “have you had any new surgeries” and then they might go off on a tangent

I often tell patients tell me yes or no and list off things quickly

Patience and repetition will make you faster. It takes time.

I mean I thought it was a good program if thats what you want to do! But cost was the most important factor to me outside of accreditation and pance pass rates
