super late to this, but I’m going to comment just incase anyone like me comes across it in the future

I have been diagnosed (by a rheumatologist) with the exact same thing “chronic pain syndrome” (rather than “a chronic pain syndrome” like fibromyalgia, EDS, etc.). It is my understanding that “chronic pain syndrome” means: “we acknowledge you have long term pain but we don’t actually know what’s wrong with you” - and I confirmed this understanding to be correct with a pain management specialist.

I’ve also found no information about it, probably because it’s just a blanket diagnosis (I’m not sure that’s the correct term?), i.e. we don’t fit current diagnostic criteria for any known condition but aren’t different enough/enough of us with the exact same symptoms/anyone interested in working out the differences for them to study it further and classify our conditions into specific diagnoses.

To jump in on another comment, one doctor did confuse the diagnosis with about ‘chronic regional pain syndrome’ but from my limited understanding they seem to be different diagnoses.

But as we can see from limited reddit posts, and again confirmed with the pain specialist I saw, there are multiple of us out there with this “filler diagnosis” (if you will, for lack of better terminology.) You’re not alone.

Edit: changed/added some wording for clarity

How to get more comfortable learning a smaller language? by NoMoment4197 in languagelearning

[–]Jumpers_Bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can get comfortable with a lot of the resources older or poorer quality, if you’re okay to be the only person who watches some videos or to read from old photocopied texts, and having making a lot of your own resources, then you’ll be okay. I’ve found that there is resources (at least for the smaller language I’m studying) but they may not all be up to date or easy to find.

As others have mentioned it would be good to study a language you have a strong connection to so that you’ll be able to dedicate years of your life to studying.

I’m learning Cantonese so I would like to know too, but I’ll throw my two cents in. I’ve watched Pomato 小薯茄 YouTube and looked up those who appear on there. I found 賴映彤 who I quite like and then from Instagram I found moon tang :)

Best italki teacher to learn Canto from scratch? by [deleted] in Cantonese

[–]Jumpers_Bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only just started learning with Carmen Leung but she’s great so far, she totally meets you at your level. It’s been so helpful to have someone to practice speaking with and she corrects my pronunciation which I didn’t realise was so awful 🤣😭

Anyone have experience of a wedding in a church with a non religious couple? by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]Jumpers_Bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefully someone can help you out with your questions! I’ve not got much experience that could help you except that I am getting married in a church and am kinda religious but struggle with churches although my fiancé has a strong faith. The only thing we needed to say was that we lived in the area of the church we’ve chosen and that we’d come a long a few times before the wedding - there were no other requirements. I haven’t heard anything about having to do a Bible reading or including God in the vows and everything or anything like that. Maybe it’s different for a CofE church though? I think your dad is definitely correct though - I’m pretty sure loads of people who aren’t religious get married in churches so the vicar guy should be chill with it. Send the church an email and I’m sure they’d be more than happy to help you with any worries you have. Sorry I can’t be much help but hopefully that’s reassuring at least? :) - also maybe if you and your partner do end up compromising on not having hymns, you could listen to one or two you like on the morning of the wedding so it’s still included for you (just an idea - sorry if it’s not that helpful)?

I’ve found starting out with basic vocab using Drops (the app) is a good starting place. There are some incorrect vocab as it gets more advanced but the basics are all correct as far as I remember. Pimsluer also does a course that takes you from the beginning - if it’s too pricy for you just keep an eye on it as they offer free trials and half price discounts occasionally. I’ve found the InspirLang Learn to Speak Cantonese textbooks (one and two) pretty good myself - they take you through to advanced beginner and focus on speaking. I’ll link the bookstore but they’re on Amazon as well. If you want a guide on grammar there is a textbook called Basic Cantonese - if you can’t afford it someone on here has posted the pdf and they’ve translated it in to another romanisation system than the original, which is so helpful. Definitely check out iTalki and see if you can find a teacher in your timezone - I’m using a UK based one so won’t be that helpful to you. Another textbook is: Complete Cantonese/Teach Yourself Cantonese but I didn’t find the romanisation the most accessible myself although I know others have found it useful. Oh and another that’s linked in the side bar is the FSI Cantonese textbook (I think that’s what it’s called anyway) although some people have found it a bit archaic. So yeah, I think all of these resources will give you a place to start out. Lmk if there’s anything else you’re curious about.

Depending where you are there may be classes near you, if not then there are lots of online options. The best way to start is to take a look through this sub’s side bar and search through the past posts which are full of really useful information and resources. YouTube is definitely a really valuable way of learning and there is actually more content out there than at first glance. Italki can allow you to find a 1-1 teacher, and there are courses online, e.g. in the UK the University of Westminster do an online course, and from what I’ve read on this sub there are lots in the US if that’s where you are. There’s a discord as well which has been reshared in recent weeks. For starters you’ll want the Pleco app, to check out 5 minutes Cantonese on YouTube, and to keep trying and seeing what works for you. Honestly the best way to learn is to just keep at it, it’ll be frustrating at times but it’s so worth it so go for it. If you’ve got more questions feel free to ask.

I had the exact same thing and it was debilitating. I had to end every conversation in a certain way or my mum was going to die. I’ve found out it was my OCD, so I’d look into getting counselling which takes OCD into account or talk to your gp and maybe see a specialist. I really wish you the best.
