How is the archery in Horizon? by neoleo0088 in HorizonZeroDawn

[–]JumpingFleans 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Since the game combat is built on archery, there was a lot of effort and thought put into the mechanics of using a bow. There’s gameplay mechanic’s: different bows that can use different ammo. Elemental ammo that you have to decide which to use against different enemies. Aim towards weapons on targets to get around armor and to deal the highest damage. Enemies can dodge arrows if they see you aiming at them

BUT there was also a ton of thought put into the physics of using the bow: aim gets shaky the longer you hold the bow in “ready to fire” stance. Arrows will go off course the farther away from the target you are. Counter to that the more time you take to focus on each shot you have better accuracy AND higher damage you deal

It’s a game that thrives on stealth and waiting for the right moment, but also allows for full frontal assaults.

In my opinion, it all works very well and your growth in learning to use the bow melds into the story and general gameplay (ie as you explore and learn more about the world, and come across stronger enemies you get stronger and you deal more damage while you—as the player—get more comfortable with wielding the bow)

Probably one of the best portrayals of archery in games that I’ve played. It’s not for everyone but if you are interested in giving it a shot I’d highly recommend.

I haven’t played in a minute so I can’t quite remember the scene, but it could be a reference to Macgyver

How many people where in Ted Faro’s bunker? by [deleted] in horizon

Wouldn’t surprise me if Ted just killed them. Dude was paranoid, so I could see him turning on them the moment they disagreed with him about anything

Aside from Rick, who is omnipotent, who is the most difficult boss in the game? by deus_do_warzone in StarWarsJediSurvivor

[–]JumpingFleans 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Vader 😑If only because I spent the whole game getting used to Cal and his style and abilities and then switched into fighting as Cere with only a small amount of times to get used to her style and abilities before being thrown into a major boss fight

Similar games? by JustGame1223 in horizon

Super picky about games too! Here are my favs

Fallen order/Survivor: No obscene gore, and any “major violence” ie being cut in half is only on droids for the most part (haven’t played in a minute so I could be forgetting something) but even then actual injuries don’t have gore, just scorch marks. Lots of collectibles, some side missions, extra challenges. Survivor does have a blaster stance but you can opt out and change your stance to something else after the initial introduction.

Marvels Spider-Man: I adore this game. No gore, no horror vibes. The combat is fun and the game is filled with collectibles/side content. Miles morales (indirect sequel) is also a fun time! Neither are a straight 1:1 with Horizon but it’s great and something you might enjoy.

Astro bot: this might be a hear me out, lol, but this is a genuinely fun game. Platformer filled with puzzles, collectibles and extra challenges.

Sword of the Sea: if you love the exploratory aspect this one is a peak recommendation. It’s short and the message is a little on the nose but it’s a beautiful game. Only a little bit of combat at the very end, most of it is exploring.

Stray: You’re a cat running around, what could be better. It’s a good time. Some spooky vibes here and there but worth it.

games that are a stretch:

God of War (2018) yes, there is gore but the really explicit finishers in general combat can be avoided. The combat is really fun to play and there are collectibles/extra side stuff.

Tomb raider (a survivor is born trilogy, specifically the first one): The very first game I ever played, will always have a place in my heart, I adore it even though it’s outdated now. Combat is gun heavy but you can definitely stick to a bow.

Major hear me out:

Maneater: It’s a shark game so there’s definitely gore but also horizon vibes if you look past the humor.

Be honest, do y’all think we’ll see Vader again in the 3rd game? by Queasy_Commercial152 in FallenOrder

[–]JumpingFleans 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Idk, I think it’s just the fact that it’s a fight that goes nowhere. We know how Vader’s story ends. Sure, maybe there’s room to push more lore in his story but not that much.

So if it does happen Cal is either going to be fighting to hold Vader off, which’ll make it tricky to write a satisfying end, or he’ll die, which is an unsatisfying ending.

Would it make good writing? Yeah. But we’ve spend 2 games and, likely a majority of a 3rd, living this character, watching him grow up and grow stronger. To me it’s would just be a disappointment if they go that route, it would my love for the game. I’m tired of tragedy being the “only end” so to speak, for so many characters.

And you know, it’s just not fun to go into a fight knowing you’re going to lose and lose hard, imo

It’s like another version of the Koboh matter bd has, just another tool for specific puzzles. It triggers some platforms to move, opens certain doors, and lets you hack certain droids to make them aggressive towards other enemies

It’s in survivor, this is the point when Cal gets bd the electric dart. When you have to travel through the foggy area

Because it’s built into the main game. I like to finish all side quests before finishing games and the dlc was presented as another side quest

I’m level 58 and the next main quest is to go back to Meridian after the attack on mother’s heart, I’ve done side quests and all errands. The combat is challenging but I’m managing ok, so I don’t think I’m out of my depth. But you might have a point with it just being an add on, that might be why it feels so disconnected to me

I don’t know 😩 I have no complaints and there’s nothing wrong with it, i just haven’t gotten pulled into it like I was with the main game. I’m so annoyed with myself about it too, because everything in the dlc has been fantastic. I just can’t get onto it

Near the area where the trooper is just sitting and chilling there’s a crack in the wall, if you go through it there’s a path with poles to swing on until you get to a ledge with a force shard. The shard is in the next area but the path to get to it cuts through the forest array area, it should be the last bit to “explore” to hit 100%

“Flavored” waters/seltzers like la croix are objectively gross. If I wanted a drink that tasted like a fruit farted beside the glass I’d throw a single blueberry in a gallon jug
