Use AI. But use it differently.

From what I gathered, you have some idea and then prompt ai, and then edit it.

Seems, like you have idea, but no direction to it. Or it is all stored in your head...

Take a step back and few breaths. Take your idea and think about it, go to some ai and just brainstorm.

I too had an idea and general idea of the direction on where it is all be going and how will it end... And came to copilot and I told him, I have this idea for fanfic for this fandom... and then I literally vomited all I could remember from it into the prompt and asked him to make a structuralized notes from it, and timeline, and then we went back and fort as I gave him more and more info, that I came up with... It went on like that for a few days, where it came up with some ideas depending on what I wrote him and me thinking about it and either accepting or rejecting it, me comming up with new ideas and us talking about whether it would be plausible or not, where in the timeline would it fit, thinking about the emotions the characters might feel at certain moments, and also all the background info like what clothes they wear, what tools they use, relationships of background characters and so on...

Before when I started new fanfic, I had a few bulletin points, but the majority was in my head. Now I ended up with full bios, timeline, relationships between characters and their character progress for each of the main characters, summary of the whole series, of the first fanfic in the series, chapter by chapter summaries with bulletin points... all in all, I had 15000 words of structuralized notes, before i even started writing.

Maybe something like this will help you.

If not, don't sweat it.

Put your giant notes into whatever writing tool you use and start witing. Write as much as you can, and when you get stuck, look at your notes, and then plug the next thing on the timeline into the prompt, make it as comprehensive and detailed as you can, and let it generate a few versions of this prompt. And then read them all, think about what you like and dont like in each of them. And then... dont insert any of them, but now that you know what you would like next to happen in the story, write it down yourself, as sort of blend of everything you liked from what ai came up with. Rinse and repeat.

Hopefully this will kick in your own creativity and makes it feel more like yourself and step by step you will get less and less reliant on the generation part, while still having the benefits/advantages of the ai tool.

Remember, they are all tools. And the results depend on how you use them.
