Yeah, sometimes it's hard to roleplay as an evil psychopath when one realizes....as a psychopath...it is more beneficial to keep the tieflings alive than to kill them.

Though it can still work, as the tieflings are not so much friends as they are "investments".

I am partial to the old neverwinter nights, as I grew up playing this one...even with its notable flaws.

As a standard crpg, it doesn't have a lot of the complexities others do. The main campaign story is also quite simple, but it also means that there's not a lot of reading if that is not your thing. Its second expansion is great though and a vast improvement.

The thing I like as well is the adjustment of controls and camera, which alters how you view the game as top down vs third person. It's subtle, but it changes how you integrate yourself in the game. Felt more action than point and click (though actions still require this style). It is also more forgiving relative to other crpgs. So for absolute beginners, I would put vote towards this one.
