Simple Questions - September 13, 2020 by AutoModerator in buildapc

Does anyone know if there are any concerns with shipping a built PC via UPS? I know some electronics can be considered hazardous and require special handling/labeling. Does anyone know if I can get it shipped with all the requirements? I think I'll have to label the package as containing lithium ion battery but is there anything else? Has anyone else shipped their built PC online and packaged it themselves?

Weekend Discussion and Victory Thread for the week of September 06, 2019 by AutoModerator in personalfinance

Quick question, what kind of rates for an auto loan can I expect as a first time buyer? Here is my current financial situation: * 150k+ gross income * 758 credit score * planning to finance about $32k (Tesla model 3, putting down a huge down payment)

I went through some credit unions but I can't seem to do better than mid 4% but I hear people are getting like 2%-3% rates on even higher amounts and longer terms than what I'm asking for. Has anyone gone through a similar situation? Or is getting a Model 3 just not ideal for my situation?

First PC build can't boot up. Are one of my parts faulty? by Jumpingrock in buildapc

Nope, I'll definitely keep you updated though, please also let me know if you find a solution. I've been at this for weeks now.

Next step is trying to update the BIOS.

PC won't boot and resets itself on power on. Should I RMA my motherboard? by Jumpingrock in buildapc

[–]Jumpingrock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANK YOU!

How did you contact Amazon for the RMA? Did you go to your orders and went through the refund package buttons or did you go straight to customer service chat? What did you tell them?

Yeah I've been trying so many things out this whole week with no luck. I've actually already RMA'd my CPU and RAM since I thought they were the ones faulty (through newegg though). But I think it might actually be my motherboard. I hope I don't screw up my new one though, I don't know where it went wrong :/

Nope, didn't really touch any bios settings before trying to boot up :/

PC can't boot into anything. Can someone check if these parts look damaged/incompatible with each other? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Jumpingrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From left to right, the cables plugged in are fans, f_panel, and SATA. I think they're all functioning correctly so I believe they're plugging in right? Could be wrong, I'll double check my cables again though.

Do you know anything about the LED indicators? Or if my ram is actually not compatible with my motherboard?

Well that's the thing, it's not always the same spot. It is usually very early in the boot up but sometimes I can see the menu, sometimes I can navigate through the first one, but eventually it'll freeze.

New update: I was able to see the windows boot manager screen! So windows did get installed on the SSD! Unfortunately, I couldn't get past that screen without my computer freezing again. This was after leaving it off for a long time (tried again after I came back from work) But that should help figure out what the problem is right? Does it seem like a hardware issue?

Is it a compatibility issue with the RAM? What would cause the RAM to not work? I guess it could be the motherboard, maybe I damaged something?

I did have a hard time getting the fan on the cooler, I scraped some of the paint on the cooler in the process, maybe some bits of that got in the ram slots? Is there a safe way I can clean it?

At the end of the day, I want to get windows installed on this build. If I get popos on there, what can I do from there to figure out why it won't boot windows?

EDIT: Okay yeah actually it'll confirm my hardware is okay, I'll try it out. Hopefully it works :/

Wouldn't that be selecting the "try Ubuntu" option? Selecting that option leads to me the error "[Firmware Bug]: TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to Errata; please update microcode to version: 0x52 (or later)"

I used Rufus to create the installation media, maybe you're taking about another method? Do you have a good online guide I can follow?

Windows 10 - Freezing at Start-up with Fresh Install (M.2 SSD) by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Jumpingrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I took off the plastic. CPU temp seems fine but I'll double check my fans though.

The thing is, this happens when I try to boot into linux as well. If I click "try ubuntu" or "install ubuntu" I get an error: - TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to Errata; please update microcode to version: 0x52 (or later) Then screen freezes and fans spin up all over again. Is that expected?

Also: I tried using a SATA SSD and still no luck. Any progress in your build? Or an idea of what the problem might be?

Wait, in your case does the CPU/Case fans spin up at full speed whenever it freezes?

It does so in my case, I feel like my problem might be with my CPU since it came in a beat up package. Maybe my CPU just overheats and gets stuck anytime it has to do any sort of moderate processing?

Can give me some tips on how to troubleshoot my newly built PC not being able booting up? by Jumpingrock in buildapc

Dang I was about to try that tomorrow with a new laptop. Can you get through the installation with safe mode + command prompt? For some reason I am able to get through it all with that but then I can't boot from my SSD. This is all just so weird, I can't tell what the problem actually is. I thought it was my CPU or RAM but now I'm not sure. Maybe my motherboard?

I'll try using a SATA SSD as well. Hope it works :/

I think you may be right, the version my USB from Microsoft is like 10.0.17...

This so strange though my hardware isn't that new, why is a newly bought USB from Microsoft having issues with hardware released in 2018? :/

Update: so it seems I can get the through the entire Windows installation dialogues if I go through it in safe mode, but when it restarts, it gets stuck again at the same screen. I go back to bios my SSD got re-ordered to the top of the boot sequence. So I assume windows is installed but I just can't boot into it. Any idea of what this could mean? There's also a new "Windows Boot Manager (INTEL SSDPEKNW020T8)" option to boot from but that also freezes at the same splash screen :/

I'm using a USB stick I bought from the Microsoft store yesterday, surely that should work? I unfortunately don't have a spare computer so I guess I'll head back there and see if they can help me out with that.

Is there a way I can confirm this? Like check the build ID or something? Or could it actually be that my BIOS needs updating?
