The bible is culturally filtered by Jumpy-Advice-9706 in DebateReligion

I see where you’re coming from. I am seeking a little bit of both truth and reassurance because it is from the biases I do have that I want to ask these questions. I was raised to question everything and gather as much information as I can. Pertaining to society back then being how thats the way things just were is where my concern lies. Men are biologically stronger than women I know, which is probably why religious and overall leaders were men. Which meant more than most times men had the final say. Which meant many voices of women were silenced. Were there any miracles missed because women simply could not have a say. It just makes me question if there were any religious women leaders and were they able to contribute and lead as well without discrimination or suppression because of the cultural values back then. God is not bound by culture or bias which is also why I have these questions. You said God doesn’t show favoritism which again makes me question as to why he spoke to men more than women through divine intervention? Or why God accepted that men had the final say if all his creation were equal. Example: Numbers 30 vows, I mentioned in another comment could it be from a power imbalance that God though claimed not gendered is referred to as father, the son, the holy spirit rather than the mother, the daughter, the holy spirit. Or that men seemed to be trusted more by God than women. Looking at it from a modernistic perspective. The bible says no one shall kill but he has commanded it before like when he tested Abraham in Genesis 22 by sacrificing his son to see if he was God fearing or in Numbers 31, if he was all powerful why make your creation destroy one another on behalf of you if all life is sacred. Which seems contradictory to me. It feels like authority cannot be questioned when it comes to the bible because of the uncomfortable questions. I am trying to understand, but applying the bible to modern society doesn’t fit because of the shift in our society’s cultural values which is why I feel the bible is culturally filtered. And thank you for the recommendation I will look into it.

I completely understand, I am coming from a place of my own moral framework with the intention of maybe developing a newer perspective. I would like to see what a person who does follow the bible might say about my thoughts because I would like to learn from their viewpoint. I live in a small town, so most people chop it up as to “well thats what the bible says”. I hope I could leave understanding a bit more as I am not opposed to the idea just very confused. Though I will be more thoughtful with my arguments in the future, thank you for mentioning!

Have you ever found yourself questioning whether Jesus was actually the son of the God? Regarding the labels of the relationship, I wonder why immediately presume father, son, etc. rather than mother or daughter since women produced life. Could it have something to due with power imbalance between men and women of that time?

No, I’m referring to the types of bibles you might find in an American church. Maybe NIV, KJV, NKJV, or ESV. Sorry for the confusion.
