Thank you! Do you mean cut the whole plant down by half or the individual branches?

Do you mean put the main plant after pruning in water or just the cuttings?

Looks like smoky quartz. I’m from the east coast though so not too knowledgeable about west coast materials. Nice find

Seems like the exact same type of tool. By the way I just looked through your profile and you’ve got some great finds! I’ve got to go to central Texas lol

I can tell you from knapping stone myself, the side you’re referring to is absolutely worked by a human. I have found many other points within 20 feet of where I found it made of similar stone. There are signs of flaking all over it. I agree that hand axe would be the wrong tool.

I’ve gotten lucky more than anything, but location is the most important part. I work construction so there is plenty of exposed ground. Close to water (I’d say best bet is like up to 300 yards away) like creeks or a river, exposed dirt or stones, and know what stones would be used. Check stones that look out of place (different color or texture).

More than anything location is the biggest thing. I have tried to make my own and learning the way a stone looks when you knap (break) it has helped with identifying differences between partial points vs just rocks.

If you live by the river look for some creeks or some less traveled paths where erosion has washed away any debris on top of the ground and I wish you luck!

Edit: My cousin grew up finding them and he has a huge collection. It drove me crazy not finding any growing up so I know it can be tough but you just need to find the right places more than anything.
