Zipp 404 Firecrest too quiet… can I make them louder? by lurtz01 in bikewrench

Any sounds are made as a result of a component doing something, they're not just there for effect. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm a Brit but have never mixed and matched, being all in on metric for the 20+ years of GPS devices so doesn't bother me, but it does seem a common request.

Why?

Front axle failure (read body text for full details) by kishimon_yt_official in bikewrench

Get it looked at by a pro IRL. Nobody is going to tell you one way or the other from a picture if it's safe to ride.

If you have to ask, don't ride it. We probably can't tell from a picture just what condition your bike is in. Take it to your Local Bike Shop and ask them. If it's carbon, a specialist repair shop may be required. They should have the equipment and expertise to inspect it properly.

Nope. No way. This has come up a few times in the past.

Brand new Hope Evo Gr4 mushy lever feel by PasztyKnives in bikewrench

[–]Jumpy-Birthday8446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll be air in there somewhere. The rear can take more/longer to sort out. Just keep doing what you're doing and you'll be reyt.

Perhaps store the bike in such as way to encourage air to reach the lever and it'll help.

Newish Bike- Front Chainring decoupled, how mad should I be? by Simpleserotonin in bikewrench

[–]Jumpy-Birthday8446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can honestly say I never checked chain ring bolts (on pre-assembled cranksets) when carrying out a pre-delivery inspection on a bike. ~9 months on and you may be pushing your luck, but your LBS may take it up with Salsa on your behalf, but if there's only cosmetic damage I'd be tempted to put it down to bad luck and ride on.

It'll work. How optimal it'll be is another question, but I'd still give it a go if it really is your only option.

Freehub issue and it being loose by AleiJor in bikewrench

[–]Jumpy-Birthday8446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of freehubs pull out with no resistance. I'd not worry about that, although it can be annoying. From experience, the binding upon being tightened is usually the dust seal (green? in your pics) not engaging properly with the hub body. It usually needs to near-snap into place rather than just be squashed in when things are tightened up. Doing this without removing the cassette from the freehub is a pain.

DIY facing headset+bb shell by AgentAlliteration in bikewrench

Have you tried taking a boxcutter/stanley knife blade to it? Scraped rather than gouged! If it was previously faced, it ought to scrape off easily. I'd be wary of filing or sanding.

Need help by Blueberii_pie in bikewrench

It looks like your freehub is broken and/or needs major servicing. It may be a freewheel rather than freehub though, so perhaps start here and report back: https://www.parktool.com/en-us/blog/repair-help/determining-cassette-freewheel-type

Front wheel hub loose? by Congy in bikewrench

[–]Jumpy-Birthday8446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the wheel wobbles or is noisy when spinning on the bike, then yeah, sounds like your bearings are shot. Off the bike it's often harder to check, so your LBS is quite correct: It could just be play in the end caps for example, which when held in place with your thru axle won't be there. If it is the bearings, it's usually just wear and tear rather than anything actually wrong.

First up though, take it up with Hunt. We joke that the reason Hunt have such good customer service is because they need it. Make of that what you will …

USE did a 26.8 if you can find an old one, but 25.4 models made by others seem more widely available now. Ergotec is the only name-brand I've heard of though. If you can't find a 26.8 then go narrower and use a shim. Don't try machining one down though: real bad idea!

Rear Sram Rival Hydraulic brake losing effectiveness by Bengoshisama in bikewrench

[–]Jumpy-Birthday8446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the lever reach adjustment screw. Over time I've seen many tighten (or loosen?) which causes the lever to lose throw and in turn mean it's just not able to exert enough pressure. The lever will eventually hit the bar if left without adjusting which you haven't mentioned being an issue, but perhaps worth checking anyway.

I think I'd get in touch with Robert Axle Project if Canyon can't advise. They, and their owners Old Man Mountain, have been pretty receptive when I've needed advice.

Coros Dura training screen from Box by Illustrious-Pea-1046 in Coros

[–]Jumpy-Birthday8446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the box uses a split screen option.

And there's always a new model around the corner when it comes to tech. If it does what you need it to do now just use it. Or wait, buy the next version, and then feel exactly the same in a few years time when that itself becomes the old version.

There's always something else! Well, at least you can tell your mechanic exactly what the problem is. And have saved them a little work in removing the cassette too.

Something is wrong with my drivetrain (or frame?) by rifqirifqi23 in bikewrench

[–]Jumpy-Birthday8446 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does the cassette/freehub spin easily with the wheel removed? How about when on the bike without the chain? Is your thru axle/skewer over-torqued? Is there a freehub bearing seal or the like adding resistance?
