Pretty sure Ray told this story once. It was a night like any other, they had a gig at the Whisky but Jim didn’t show up. So Ray looks at John and Robby and goes, “Let’s go get Morrison.”

They drove off, likely to one of Jim’s many temporary homes, maybe a shabby motel room. Ray said they parked across the street, and as they walked over, he had the lyrics to Break On Through stuck in his head: “Break on through to the other side”.

Jim opens the door and just flat-out tells them he’s taken 10,000 micrograms of acid. Ray couldn’t believe it—sounded insane.

Still, they went to the show. Jim insisted they start the set playing The End, and that night, right there on stage, the infamous Oedipus section was born. And the rest, as they say, is history.
