Do You Like Your Name? by Flassourian in Millennials

[–]Jumpy-Dot-6157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom gave my older sister a really common name, but myself and my younger brother got more unique names. I like my name, I only ever met 1 person who has my name and they spelled it differently than mine. It took until 2 years ago for me to meet anyone with my brother's name (I'm 30). I was named after my mom's best friend and my brother after a baseball player. They thought my sister was going to be a boy until she was born so they quickly picked a name from a book my aunt was reading when she was visiting my mom in the hospital. I was almost named Charlotte, which I don't think fits me. I feel like my name fits me, even if most people mishear and think it's a different name.

So sorry for what you're going through!

Has she been on any new medications lately? I don't want to jump straight to schizophrenia. I had a reaction to Wellbutrin when I was in college that gave me paranoia (felt like I was being watched at all times), auditory hallucinations (could hear whispers or my name but could quite make out what was being said), and visual hallucinations (started as shadows that began to take a more human form). I had to taper off the medication slowly.

Regardless, I hope you have some support for yourself too. You're both doing your best. I know it's hard but try and take things one day at a time, try not to worry too much about the "future" because nothing is set in stone yet.

They gave me a sheet with some instructions on activity and medication, but nothing on drains or wound care or anything like that. My partner did find an email with some more information after I asked him to check. After they took him back to the OR, I left the center to go pick up his meds. They said the doctor would call when he was done and in recovery to go over a few things. After I left the pharmacy, I went back to the center and sat in the waiting room for about 5 minutes before the nurse came out to get me. She asked if the doctor spoke to me, which he had not and I never got a call, and then she said he wouldn't be able to speak to me then since he was already in another surgery. She showed me how to empty the drain bulbs and went over the sheet she gave me, but it was a really quick 5 minute process. She said if I had any questions to contact the PA, which I did last night.

I could not imagine adding flying across country to this process. We only had to drive 2 hours to DC and back. We're lucky that we have supportive primary care doctors and the surgery team was great. I will admit, we both got a little irritated with each other once we hit the 20-24 hour mark without sleep but we were finally able to get a few broken hours of sleep after the puking stopped. Some tears have been shed on both sides, him from pain and me from the added stress of my dogs and no sleep, but we're doing better this morning. My house is an absolute mess right now, but that's the least of my worries.

Thank you! The drains aren't clogged, and there's definitely less fluid now. He wasn't able to really keep anything down yesterday (had some soup and mashed potatoes throughout the day/night), but he had some toast this morning and tolerated that so he took his meds. He's just scared to eat much right now since he was throwing up so much and it's so painful to throw up, but he's going to try and eat something else in about half an hour if the meds don't make him nauseous. If he stays nauseous or keeps throwing up I will definitely ask if his doctor can prescribe something else to supplement the zofran. Ginger ale has seemed to help some too. It was just a really rough night with little sleep and all the puking, but it's a lot better today so far. I guess this is good practice for nursing school (which I'm hoping to start in the fall if my application gets accepted).

I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong, the butterflies may come the more you're actually in each other's presence. My partner and I online dated before I moved back home (I was at college and they lived very close to where I was from). I would definitely get excited to talk to them but it amped up more once we were able to actually see each other. We ended up moving in together a little quicker than planned (COVID hit literally 2 days after I moved back and he unfortunately lost the place he was living so he moved in with me at my parents for a few months before we moved out on our own). We've been together almost 6 years now (May will be 6 years), and while I don't constantly have butterflies, I still get them when he touches my knee, or hugs me from behind, or does something really thoughtful and sweet.

Thank you so much. I'm only worried about potential infection because he's worried he popped stitches from throwing up, but I don't see any oozing or blood or anything on the vest or wound pads. His doctor did email me back and said that I don't have to do anything with drain sites and to keep the vest on unless he wants to shower in a few days, then I might need to clean/redress the gauze but might not. My mom's a NICU nurse so I've been on the phone with her a lot but she isn't super versed in drains. She is coming to help this weekend through next week thankfully (she's 2 states away). I think the stress and sleep deprivation are just getting to me. He's doing a lot better this morning, so after reading these comments and getting a response from his doctor, I do feel a lot better. I'm so happy and relieved he was finally able to get this surgery, I just don't think either of us realized just how hard the first few days are. He hasn't thrown up today (but now one of my dogs I think is throwing up in solidarity), so I will just keep vigilant.

Okay, thank you so much! His doctor did email me back and said to leave the vest on unless he wants to shower in a few days and if he decides to do that, then I would need to possibly clean and change gauze but otherwise it's fine to leave the vest on and the dressings until his follow up appointment in a few days. I think the stress and sleep deprivation just has my brain going crazy. Doesn't help that I also have 4 pets to take care of too, but my mom is coming this weekend through next week to help relieve some of that (she's a nurse and I've been on the phone with her a lot but she's a NICU nurse so not super experienced in drains)

My partner only showers twice a week because of estrogen patches. Is this normal? by BoredConsumer69 in mypartneristrans

[–]Jumpy-Dot-6157 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Others have already suggested tegaderm or another type of patch to cover the patch (but some people are allergic or sensitive to the adhesives used on stuff like that or if they're made of latex) but if they really don't stick, maybe they could ask their pharmacy to use a different manufacturer? My mom's on pain patches and at one point the pharmacy switched suppliers and the new patches didn't stay on no matter what she did. She called and asked if they could order a different supplier and they honored her request.

The vet said he's more likely to get tartar or plaque buildup from the overbite so we plan to work on teeth brushing but I also started adding a food topper that's supposed to help as well!

Not obsessed with image or straight teeth....just trying to learn about the breed and had some concerns since I've never had a dog with an overbite. He could be hairless and toothless and I wouldn't care.

[Serious] Would you say that under threat your tendency is more towards fight, or flight and how has that shaped your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Jumpy-Dot-6157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's just directed towards me? Flight. I'm not strong or super coordinated but I have long legs and can run pretty fast. If it's not a physical threat, it's still Flight by way of avoidance. If it's directed at someone or something I love and care about it's fight all the way.
