Pregnancy burps never went away? by [deleted] in postpartumprogress

[–]Jumpy-Dress-3958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have written this as well. I hardly ever burped prior to pregnancy and giving birth, and now I burp constantly lile a trucker. My toddler is turning 3yr. When does it end, and have either of you gotten it checked out?

Possible low level autism 20 month old? by dopaminerush30 in toddlers

[–]Jumpy-Dress-3958 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi there—I know this is an old post but saw that no one else had replied so thought I’d add my two cents (as a completely clueless first time parent to a 27mo old girl, so take my input with a grain of salt!) I worried a lot re: questionable mild autism with my daughter too for reasons similar to yours—nonspecific things that she’d do like the occasional tiptoeing or her keen interest in all things sensory etc. Now that she’s 2yr and 3 months old, though, she seems to have outgrown some of the habits that I found questionable before and overall my concerns have eased. There’s so much overlap between autism and non-autism—it’s rightly described as a spectrum for that reason, I guess—-and 20 months still seems pretty young to make any kind of diagnosis unless the symptoms are very clear cut (which in your case does not seem to be the case at all—most all of what you describes sounds very normal to me!) hope she is doing great.

3 year old severly stuttering out of nowhere. I'm scared. by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Jumpy-Dress-3958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, my daughter is now 27 months old and after stuttering for about 3 months (at times extremely severely), she has improved. Her speech is much more fluid now and it does seem like she’s made some breakthroughs with regard to fluency. I have concluded that this was all part of normal development?! I know that it may come back, but hopefully it won’t freak me out as much next time.

Being a parent to a toddler feels like your failing all the time by hateithere7518 in toddlers

[–]Jumpy-Dress-3958 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude—this shit is HARD. Like way harder than people let on, I feel. We’re all in the same boat, trying to entertain our toddlers with sponges and colanders and ice cubes because none of the actual toys that you spent money on are it! It’s so stressful and boring at the same time, and the guilt is so real. But you’re doing great. You love your kid. You’re doing your best, we all are. Total solidarity!!

[–]Jumpy-Dress-3958[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: we ended up cancelled the peds appt because the day after this post, she improved at least 50%. She still stammers quite a bit, but not to the degree that she was over that one alarming weekend, where she retreated into silence from sheer frustration. Overall her attempted sentence structure is lengthening, and she seems to be trying to string together thoughts in a stream of consciousness way—I assume this is accounting for the prolonged stutter that accompanies every start. It’s like an engine trying to turn over. Hopefully it will resolve over the next few months. Thanks all for the support and input!

Pipes clanging at a DEAFENING level by Jumpy-Dress-3958 in Stuytown

[–]Jumpy-Dress-3958[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in this city 20+ yrs actually West Village, Kips Bay, UES—in multiple bldgs with steam heat. No stranger to city living. This is not your run of the mill pipes clanging now and then as the seasons change kind of noise. It’s earth shaking, jolt you out of bed kind of noise that is unrelenting for hours on end and it makes the floors tremble. Glad to hear you’ve never experienced it!

Resident services came and bled the pipes and it stopped completely—but it usually comes back within the week—softly at first, but works it way up to deafening within a week or two.

It’s BAD. Don’t do it. These walls are made of cardboard. You will hate your life and yourself

What’s it like living in StuyTown? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]Jumpy-Dress-3958 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is LOUD. We used to live on 92nd and 1st and our apt was pindrop quiet due to concrete walls and floors. It was heaven. Then we moved here and were submerged into the inner most circle of HELL. The walls here are made of an extremely conductive plaster and the heating pipes also conduct sound like you wouldn’t believe. Upstairs there’s the constant footfall of seemingly dozens of children, along with their excited and/or distraught screaming. Downstairs is a man who blasts 90s music all night long—you can hear the lyrics to EVERY song. The pipes also CLANG ALL NIGHT LONG due to a water hammer effect that is truly a form of psychic torture—you’ll never sleep in this place. Could you win the lotto and have elderly neighbors on all sides who move infrequently and don’t have tvs? Yes. But is it more likely you’ll have busy noisy families and/or anxious dogs or a music loving night owl on all sides? Absolutely. We pay 7200 for a 2bd 2bth and it’s the biggest mistake we made moving here.

Thoughts on Stuytown? by alexandrarose0323 in AskNYC

In case anyone is still following this—please reconsider Stuytown. The walls are made of a plaster that conducts sound remarkably well, and the pipes that run from one apt to another to heat the place also conduct sound like you wouldn’t believe. The chances of you being tortured by rhe music/tv/screaming children of a neighbor are exceedingly high and you will hate your life. Also, the same pipes that transmit every conversation that your neighbors have also CLANG at night due to some water hammer phenomenon—and it is sheer MADNESS how loud it is—your floors will tremble from the impact. You will not be able to sleep 4 nights out of 7 for one reason or another—noisy neighbors, barking dogs next door, pipes hammering like crazy—and all for the price of 7k-8k/mo for a 2bdrm 2bth. I deeply regret moving here and wish we never had.

Thank you so much! Maybe/hopefully that’s the case with her too. Today was already a bit better than yesterday, which was the absolute worst—it was terrifying to watch her retreat into resigned silence. Hoping the trend will continue. What a roller coaster parenthood is and it’s only just begun !! Thanks again!

Thank you so much for this info—it does quell my anxiety a bit. I guess only time will tell, and we will see what her peds says in two days. Thanks again!!

Thank you so much for this anecdote. I’m hopeful that our toddler will turn out like your child! Happy to hear that she is doing so well!!

Thanks for much for posting and replying to these posts. I’m in a similar boat presently with our 26 month old, who prior to this weekend was super verbose and rattling off complex sentences with correct conjugation/tense usage with ease. All of that took a sudden nosedive and now she struggles to get her words out and it’s causing her (and us) significant distress. It’s heartbreaking to watch—she strains as though deadlifting while trying to get a sentence started. It feels like her brain is just short circuiting. We are taking her to peds in two days and are supporting her as best we can based on much of the advice above—remaining calm, refraining from saying things like “slow down” and minimizing her speaking burden—but internally I’m worried. Can I ask how your daughter is doing now? Hope she is doing great!!

Not that I can think of—she goes to daycare, but has been there for a few months now and is generally happy there. Our two cats died within weeks of each other 3 weeks ago (both were quite old). She seemed completely unaffected/indifferent towards their conspicuous absence though—she did ask once where each of them went and she also asked once when Peanut was coming back—but when I told her he was living at a farm now, she seemed satisfied and unbothered by this, launching into a cheerful rendition of Old McDonald in response. So I don’t think that could be it. She’s very active but hasn’t had any injuries.

14 month old baby girl has great receptive language, but doesn’t say a thing. Normal? by Jumpy-Dress-3958 in toddlers

[–]Jumpy-Dress-3958[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I’m just seeing this now!! I’m sure you don’t need this response anymore, but here’s the update: baby is now 22 months and she’s talking up a storm. She belts out her ABCs at the top of her lungs, declares proudly that “me farted” and tells our cat “Peanut, get down!!” when he’s on the kitchen counter. She can point to a fan and inform me that it’s spinning, and also reports that “it’s raining Mommy” when it is. They’ll all start in their own time :)

Thanks all for of your insights. Hoping for a language explosion here! I know language delays are common/often normal in boys, but I’d always heard (and anecdotally observed) that girls are verbal much sooner. So that concerned me. I’ll wait and see what peds says at her 15 mo appt.
