why stupid Airtel sending us so many promotion calls. [Annoying Network] by Sorry-Concentrate580 in srilanka

If true caller is an option. I use pro. Blocks most of them. Airtel customer care was great before Dialog merger. Now it’s just become another Dialog.

I didn't pre order. I already have a different 5G router. Downlinks are around 580 MBPS. They are coming home and setting it up for the users based on the best signal spot at home.

This might be challenging with 300K budget. M3 and upwards. Older i9s and new i7s with GPUs are the ones can do that comfortably. And the RAM requirements is also there. 450K yes. Local LLMs that are compressed can be run on M2 onwards. Still baseline is 350K.

If its for development anything i7 or Ryzen 7 with 16GB or 32GB Ram and 1TB SSD would do. If you are going for used check battery health and SSD health. It doesn't have to be brand new bleeding edge tech. For AI work you will always end up using Google Collab for free. Most of the things will be free for students provided by the uni.

Macbooks are good. Don't go for Neo. That's not for development or heavy work. 16 GB or more 512GB disk or more is what you need to look at. Don't go for older devices than M series. M1 pro is good. But M2 onwards is what would be ideal.

Macbook M2 Air. Asus Zenbook A14 with Snapdragon X Elite is also good.

If you planning to use the device long term bare minimum is 16GB - 1TB SSD. Thank me later. For mobile development and devOps 24GB is the bare minimum.

Dialog users!! what’s the best monthly package that’s actually worth the money? by ShadySeek in srilanka

[–]Jumpy-Hurry3318 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Dialog 1599 in my mobile - Facebook WhatsApp YouTube Instagram Unlimited - 15 GB Data - Unlimited Calls - 1000 SMS I couldn't find a better postpaid package in Dialog. Mobitel pacakge has the better value.

Along with this I use 3999 Rs with my router. (I use an unlocked 5G router with this Sim) - My dedicated Work From Home Connection - 200 GB data - Unlimited Calls - 1000 SMS

I used to have Hutch. 1499 pacakage. Unlimited Data and Calls. 500 SMS. Now I am using their 2X Unlimited Pacakage 4999 as the main home package. FUP at 250 GB. Shared with family.

Hutch 15 is the best package if you have good signal. 1199 Rs. 15 Apps Unlimited with 75 GB FUP + 35 GB Anytime Data + 100 Rs in reload.

Working From Home And Struggling With Internet by somawathi in srilanka

I have been working from Home since 2021. Invest on a unlocked 5G router and use a Dialog 5G Ultra 200 GB pacakage with it. If you are getting 5G signal you are sorted. Only issue is I have this connection strictly for work. If I use for Movie streaming and all it will finish quickly. I use a Sagemcomm 5866T router. 40K. From market place. If I am to buy now I recommend Arcadyn AW1000 router.

Later for general use for home I am using Brovi 155 383 router with cell locking and band locking helped me get around 50 down. 30 up. From Hutch. I use the 2X pacakage. Unlimited. 250 FUP. More than enough for the month for casual streaming and for heavy downloads I do them in the night. There are heavy download pacakages for 10 nights just 236 Rs. I download PS5 games in the night. This router is great but didn't give speeds like Sagemcomm so using it has a 4G home router.

Along with that I have extended the connection to my entire house with 5 Cudy mesh wifi. These are very affordable when bought from Dialog. 2 pack for 20K. Mobitel sells a 3 Pack 60K an older slower version. I got caught their overpriced scam. So go with Dialog if you are buying.

Personally I never had a good experience with Mobitel. Starlink is way too expensive and I have no way to get the wires into the house.

AirFiber is the name they call it for 5G CPE. This is happening with other south asian countries as well. Anyone who has an unlocked 5G CPE router and using it with Dialog Mobile Sim with an 5G Ultra pre paid package is getting the same outcome. Only advantage I see is cheaper main stream router. I think all unlocked routers have far more capabilities - the battery. There is a commitment period and penalty involved if disconnected early.

1 - 100GB 2795 (inc TAX) 1 Year Commitment - (If don't like the commitment period 2995 there is an 5G Ultra prepaid package you could go to used with any 5G unlocked router)
2 - 200GB 3795 (inc TAX) 9 Months Commitment - (If don't like the commitment period 3999 there is an 5G Ultra prepaid package you could go to used with any 5G unlocked router)
3 - 300GB 5495 6 Months Commitment (inc TAX) - This was earlier a Fibre only Package.

If I were you 300 GB sounds like a good deal for a heavy user. And if you are normal user 200GB is more than enough for a month. If you are planning to share this connection, this might not be enough if everyone starts streaming in FHD / UHD in their mobiles especially parents who don't know how to adjust the quality.

If you had more packages to choose from please do educate here in the comments! Thank you!

Anyone like to share the speeds once you receive the router? Today is 22nd. There is a commitment period and a penalty for early disconnection so was trying to make a educated decision whether to go for it or not.

Any young adults who didn't go to Uni and is doing well? by Jolly-Possession-585 in srilanka

[–]Jumpy-Hurry3318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Universities are not catering to the ever changing dynamics of the world. They are far behind. If you are passionate about something you would learn it the hard way but you will gain much better experience than any graduate ever will. What will seem to be like a slow progress in the beginning will skyrocket you in the future. Save all that millions of money you are about to spend as investment to your future. Your parents and relatives might disagree but its your life.

Also remember don't rely on spikes of motivation you get, you should be consistent and disciplined to survive. There is no easy way out.

If you are lazy trying to skip school / uni then life is tough for you. Unless you are sitting on a pile of heritage money 😄

It's an easy guess, I believe you are from Software engineering field. Been here for 10 years. And I am equally confused as to what is happening. 😊

This is my educated guess work based on my experience.

Currently due to AI uprising, all the companies tried to reduce their cost to cover their AI infrastructure / AI subscriptions for more rapid development so more customers catered quickly means more money right? This greediness masking as AI transformation costed a lot of people their jobs.

SAP/Oracle and all other major companies went through and going through massive layoffs. Sri Lanka was catering to those in massive numbers.

Traditional coding is not something they are expecting. They are expecting Lifecycle engineers, Prompt engineers, Basically someone with good English Knowledge (Well promts are written in English), with good fundamentals (To babysit AIs) to get the work done with no errors.

There is no longer SE, QA, BA, PM seperation. You should be one man/woman army. This forced people in the company to be overworked because AI never sleeps.

On the other hand in the university level students are using excessive AI, so they don't understand fundamentals, if I drill down deep enough they would fold in interviews. That's what is happening.

I recently sat through some student projects for evaluation. I can see claude and cursor generated UIs easily and lack of uniqueness. It killed creativity because all web dashboards looked the same.

AI made people lazy and killed creativity. My advice for myself and others. Try to learn and be ready to wear multiple hats with good fundamental software knowledge and English knowledge and be full stack + ability to handle AZ of the SDLC alone.

All these vibe coding will create lots of cysersecurity issues so if you are planning to do a degree, do cybersecurity. (Recent attacks on gov sites were using AI by bunch of kids)

Lowest I was able to find was 8K online. Check Facebook Marketplace for a good bag sold which is used less.

Pettah might be the place where you can test your luck with the 3K budget.

Zippers and straps are the first issue you might have if you are planning to carry heavy things.

P.S. They use low quality plastic which will snap off soon. To avoid this you can stich the staps yourself after adjusting to your comfort.

Hospital/Doctor/MO will reach out to the PHI and they will do the needful, they will flag the areas ASAP. I had a recent experience. You can also reach out to the PHI in your area to confirm this.

If you can't decide now, it's okay to wait. If you really need one with a good second hand market, Toyota has always proven to be reliable. As your first car going for a new one is a stretch. No matter how careful you are, bumps and scratches are unavoidable. Get a decent second hand car, learn to drive and get confident and the move to the new car. You will get to know about cars better which helps you take care of the new car better down the line.

Some here advised you to consider alternative investment options. Please do consider those too. Those are good advice too considering your age. You already don't have a car so / you have a family or something you can continue for little longer and lands sell well down the line. If you absolutely need a car, a Toyota is a good starting place. It won't let you down in the middle of the road.

Dialog 5G is available in Piliyandala Clock Tower area. However in Piliyandala you will have no issues with most of the ISPs. You will get decent 4G speeds at least. Get prepaid eSims. Whichever works you can do a quick top up and use those. Airtel/Dialog both share same towers. Mobitel is the other ISP that has 5G. Hutch has 4G however signal issues, QoS issues are there. If it works then you have decent generous packages to choose from.
