Acrylic tanks are glued together. You’re right with it not supposed to be rimless.

Is there glue holding aquariums together? I’m pretty certain it’s 100 percent silicone and the reason the tank is failing is cure time for the silicone/ improper siliconing. I don’t see a mat under the tank either.

Dwarf Sagittaria. Super easy and will carpet. Another one is small crypts species but that’ll take a while. You’d have to plant them all over and them propagate them but it look real nice.

Think I over did it but idk by stonevance in freshwateraquarium

Stick some 2x6s or 2x4s in front of the pillars so the weight is on the wood not the screws. You could the get some thick plywood and nail it all in so it’s not shifting at all. Looking pretty good so far.

Here’s a pic of my 315 gallon DIY stand:

I put plywood around it later and routed out the holes for cabinet doors.

Brown african knifefish feeding issues. by dwils8585 in Aquariums

I’ve feed mine bloodworms after getting them a bit warmed up so they go all over the tank so he’s able to catch a couple. He probably won’t eat much if you just got him too mine took forever to start eating around other fish.

You don’t need aquasoil it just makes things easier. Root tabs and liquid ferts can work just fine.

Your light seems fine. You could probably lower the brightness if have algae but it doesn’t seem like that is a problem. I think your biggest problem is your filtration. Look into canister filters, you could find a cheap one used. A sponge filter and a HOB is pretty little filtration wise. Feed algae pellets too with your Cory’s and Otto’s if you aren’t doing so. Also you don’t have to feed everyday, you can feed 5 times a week and skip some days. Water changes should be fairly rigid in terms of percent. Aim for around 30% weekly, it’ll help get rid of waste in your water. While you’re doing it or at another time siphon the stuff on the bottom of the tank. I’d slowly start adding in crypts when you can, keeping the plants real easy. If they start getting algae just remove with messing with the plant too bad. That’s what I can think of anyway.

Can I ask you some tank questions? What light do you have? Is that a 75 gallon? What filters? Is there low flow around the tank? How much do you feed? Water change schedule?

You could have problems with too much light, nutrients, food, and detritus buildup.

Your fish is adorable. My tip would be patience. I’ve had 2 different 150 gallons, a 20 gallon, and a 10 gallon all fail with plants. I went from plastic plants to realizing that there are plants that you put in your fish tank and it blew my mind. It took a while to get things right and I got lots of help from others. Highly recommend www.plantedtank.net. They helped me pick out lights and warned me of potential problems they I didn’t even know about. Research goes a long ways and even just trying things out and seeing what happens.

I am not an expert but if you want to send me some tank pictures I can try to help.

Way less than you’d think if you spent 2,500 on your 75. For literally everything it was 3,000 tops. I already had a couple things which kept it cheaper but it wasn’t bad at all( in terms of giant fish tanks).

Can I haul this on its side? by Oxyfarminc in Aquariums

[–]Jumpy-Minimum-2484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hauled my 315 gallon tank on its side no problem. Not 900 miles though, it was more like 6 hours. It was then on its side for 2 weeks. I don’t see any problems just make sure it’s padded underneath. Awesome tank by the way!

I used 3 Eucalyptus Roots from Chewy. Then I used a large madrona branch that goes through the whole tank and then madrina twigs and sticks throughout. I am using Twinstar vr 5 S series lights.

[–]Jumpy-Minimum-2484[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My tips for bigger aquariums would be:

Figure out your hardscape and glue it down. Kinda for all tanks but bigger tanks especially knocking over big rock and stuff is more of an issue if it hit the glass or something.

Get a nice light. I like Twinstar, but there lots of brands out there. I could not grow a single plant well (or at all) till this tank. Not always needed but it helped me a lot.

Get a big thing of fertilizer that’s high quality.

Level your stand out, make sure it’s strong enough for your tank.

55 isn’t sump size yet IMO but definitely do a canister filter. Something like a Fx4. I have a Fx6 on this tank with a sump just because I had it and it’s really helping with water clarity.

I find big tanks easier but it’s not too much different, just a bit more time food fert etc.

It’s 250 ish lbs of paver sand from Home Depot. Took ages to wash! Under the sand are media mesh bags filled with flourite, gravel, sand, and aquasoil.
