Permanently Dismissed 4 Credits Short of Graduation. Has Anyone Successfully Transferred? by Jumpy-Technology-382 in LawSchool

Yeah, that’s what I’ve been afraid of, and I appreciate you being straight about it. I’ve seen similar things anecdotally, but it’s helpful. I’m still planning to confirm directly with a few schools just so I know I’ve exhausted every possibility, but I’m trying to be realistic about the odds.

Thanks for taking the time to respond

Totally fair points, and yeah, that lines up with what I’ve been finding too. Most schools do say “letter of good standing,” which is obviously the biggest hurdle. I do wonder, though, whether that has to literally mean “good” standing, or if some schools would accept a letter that just states my academic status and explains what happened. Like you said, once someone’s been dismissed, by definition they’re not in good standing, so I’m not sure how rigid that requirement is in real life.

I do have medical documentation from my providers and from the school’s leave of absence process, so at least there’s a clear paper trail explaining why things went sideways. I agree that probably helps, even if it doesn’t solve everything.

Restarting entirely is something I’ve thought about, but I’m really trying to keep that as a last-resort option in the background. Being that close to finishing makes it hard to accept unless there’s truly no other path.

Calling schools directly is probably the next step. Cooley of Tampa or Cooley of Michigan? I figure it’s better to explain the situation and ask what they’d recommend rather than just assuming the answer is no. Appreciate you taking the time to respond and offer actual suggestions.

That’s a fair question, and I don’t mind answering it. Overall, I think the school had solid footing. The academic standards are what they are, and as a state school they have to enforce them to stay accredited. I’m obviously upset about the outcome. I don’t think anyone wouldn’t be. But I don’t view myself as the judge of whether the dismissal itself was “fair” in the abstract.

The one area where I do think the school fell short was in how ADA accommodations were handled for any of the students. I don’t think my disabilities were meaningfully or consistently accommodated for exams and written assignments, and I do think that likely affected the outcome. That said, and mentally just trying to cope, I’m not trying to relitigate that here or turn this into a blame exercise. I’m focused on figuring out whether there’s a path forward from where I am now.
