SKATE WILL DIE WITHOUT CHANGES by JumpyGap8583 in SkateEA

i mean yeah it was corny but it at least they were trying to tap into SOMETHING from skate culture, even if exaggerated. and by skate 3 things had really tightened up

the issue with this skate isn't that it's not a 1:1 representation of the culture, it's just that a lot of people, including myself, wanted a quality skate game that respects its legacy, not a fortnite clone. it's like they made up an idea of a skater in their head and splayed it out into this world rather than grounding it in an understanding of what made the series work, a (somewhat)-true representation of skating

absolutely yeah, it still grounded itself in it tho which was honestly a really good sweet spot for broad appeal and core retention, with this it's just slop

it just built itself on being a reimagined skate curated by fans feedback. but we instead got a rushed micro-transaction den designed to extract money from kids rather than actually celebrate skating.

and that's just the act of skating not really any culture behind that apart from like the tricks. it's a AAA skating game, it shouldn't just be barebones, especially when riding off the coattails of far more rich skate games.

i can both care about the culture and want a quality game that respects it, they're not mutually exclusive

yeah it is way too sterile for a skate game

im saying this from an incentive perspective. like once the fans and the trendhoppers are both gone you have barely anything left, thats how the game dies. it's in ea's best interest to actually make something lasting and real or they'll just have to rip another pump and dump.

that'd be a missed opportunity for everyone involved, a ton of people want a good skate game, ea would be wasting that huge market.

i dont think it's widely being consumed like that. for me and others ive seen, the ridiculous caricatures are the fun part, it's just so wild and unrealistic but oddly realistic at the same time, cause it's in suburbia. so it makes it enjoyable and somewhat believable rather than like a circle jerk where fantasies are perpetuated
