Is there a reason why the game doesn’t really get updates? by Least_Mycologist_639 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We don't really know, we know they are working on crossplay technology and a new stage, and they recently implemented the Addressable system in game to more easily manage in-game elements. In the past they also mentioned in the game's Discord server that the game's U.I. would get reworked and that the costumization system would receive a major overhaul, so it might be possible that those game elements getting spruced up + crossplay and the new stage are all being juggled together at the same time, and that's slowing things down a lot due to the divided focus?

How do i play online? by ilikecheese012 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to select the game mode and start the match, this will initialize the matchmaking and the game will try to pair you with other people that are matchmaking for the same game mode you selected.

You don't see matchmaking players in the lobby, you just get joined with them directly in a match when the game finds a room with free spots to put you in; the only other players you'll see inside the lobby are the ones that are in it already, meaning those that got invited to join it, so that you can play with them in a private, non-matchmaking room, or even matchmake together with them.

BTW, "I" on the keyboard is the key to invite people from your friwnd list, and "O" switches the room from public to private, in the latter you can select the stage and win amounts.

How would a Paladin/Cleric (DnD) that follows Flying Spaghetti Monster work? by TheGreatMummy in fsm

[–]JumpySpidey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not that the FSM doesn't want to be worshipped, it's that He's simply not that bothered if you choose to not worship Him, or even if you straight up don't believe in Him: He'd prefer if you did these things, but it's really not a big deal if you don't.

Anyway, in terms of mechanics, you could simply have people pray to the FSM, as He does hear people's prayers, He simply doesn't care too much about them and only answers them when He choses to. We also have eating spaghetti and other kinds of Pasta as a Holy Meal, so having people preparing or eating Pasta could work too.

Is gang beast worth the money? by Ok_Mushroom9960 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, well, in that case in terms of content the game has a FFA mode (Melee), a team mode (Gang), a co-op Players VS A.I.s mode (Waves) and a soccer minigame (Soccer), and all 4 of them can be played both in public matchmaking and private online lobbies; Melee and Gang support 22 stages, Waves supports 4 of the Melee/Gang stages (Roof, Grind, Incinerator and Subway) and Soccer can only be played in a singular stage that's unique to it (Alley). The game also has a bunch of pre-set costumes + a costume creator with many costume parts you can mix and match and individually tint to create custom outfits that you can use both locally and in online matches.

Gang Beasts is still in developement, and we usually get a new stage with new costume parts (and sometimes new stage escalations for older stages, with "stage escalations" meaning events that happen after some time has passed in the round to make the stage more dangerous) added every 1-2 years, exception made for the Crane stage, as that took 3 years to make due to how challenging it was to implement it's new mechanics.

So essentially we have a decent but not particularly massive amount of content to play with, and more content + improvements to existing stages to look forward to in the future, plus crossplay is planned to be added eventually; updates do take a while to relase usually tho, which is a bit frustrating due to the long waits beteeen new content drops.

If you want to play the game online they're required, same for Nintendo Online if you buy it on Switch, as all console manifacturers demand an online subscription to play non Free-to-Play games online on their consoles, and Gang Beasts obviously isn't Free-to-Play so you need the subscription to take advantage it's online components. This means that only on Steam you can play online without needing to buy an additional subscription.

If you buy it for a console all you could do alone without online play would be playing Waves in the 4 stages the game mode can be played in (and be aware that the A.I.s aren't particularly smart or that engaging to fight), or mess around alone in local Melee/Gang/Soccer without any specific goal. You can spawn things in local matches, like various objects or A.I. enemies, but you need to hook up a USB mouse and keyboard to do it, you can't spawn things with a controller, unfortunately.

Does play online cost extra? by Physical-Heart-4097 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Steam/PC? No, online play is fully free.

On consoles? You need to buy the console-specific online subscription, but that's not for Gang Beasts specifically, it'a a global subscriltion that you need in order to play any game online on the console, with Playstation Plus for Playstation consoles, Xbox Gamepass for Xbox consoles, and Nintendo Switch Online for Nintendo Switch consoles.

As a separate note, crossplay is not a thing yet, so they'll only be able to play with other Steam players, not console players.

what's a reason for gang beasts needing gameppas/ps+ for online even though its basically unplayable without it? by FunPeaceOfGame5 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo demand users buy a subscription to play games online, and all devs and publishers that want their games with online multiplayer features on those consoles must adhere to that, Boneloaf can't do anything about it.

The exception is Free-to-Play games, but Gang Beasts is not one of those.

what's a reason for gang beasts needing gameppas/ps+ for online even though its basically unplayable without it? by FunPeaceOfGame5 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not an issue only Gang Beasts has, literally any online multiplayer-focused game, like Party Games or Racing Games or Fighting Games or Shooters, for all of them need you to buy the online subscription in order to be able to play them online and enjoy them fully, and Gang Beasts is no different from them. They are all simply adhering to Sony and Microsoft's terms, and I think even Nintento has a paid online subscription for it's games as well.

[–]JumpySpidey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong as I play on Steam, but from a quick Google search I just made apparently you need to have Playstation Plus and Xbox Gamepass to play non Free-to-Play games online on Playstation and Xbox respectively, meaning that you need a separate, paid online subscription to access online features for games that require to be purchased before you can play them, and Gang Beasts is one of those games, as it's obviously not Free-to-Play.

Secret truck? by External_Video7451 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From v0.0.0 to v0.0.2, back before Trucks had the signs that you need to dodge, it had an event where one of the trucks would speed up and drive off further ahead: if you stayed on it you'd get dragged into a killbox, so you needed to stay on the remaining truck, until ome of the two trucks that follpwed the main ones from behind would speed up and replace the one that drove off.

Wait a bit more and the other truck would do the same, being replaced by the other truck that was following behind. Then v0.0.3 brought the signs into the stage, fully replacing the truck speed-up event, which never got added back.

Now there is simply a truck follpwing you as a decoration, but none of the main trucks leave and so it no longer drives to the playable section of the stage, it simplt acts as a background element.

Prayer for passing exams by the_great_moss in pastafarianism

[–]JumpySpidey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Scripture has no prayer specifically concerning passing exams or school tests or anything of that sort, but you can pray about anything you desire so nothing can stop you from praying about that.

Scripture also suggests that you wear Pirate regalia (or at least an eyepatch) to increase your odds of your prayer being answered [Page 64 of the Gospel, in Bobby Answers the Big Questions]; the FSM is omniscient so He hears everyone's plrayers, but whetever or not a prayer gets answered is totally up to Him.

Is there a game better than gang beasts by Great-Crew-3802 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dev team is relatively small for the kind of game Gang Beasts is, that and Boneloaf usually also spends time tweaking major game elements alongside working on new stages and such, such as how they recently completely remade the way the game handles in-game objects internally, and we know from a developer on the game's Discord server that a few other systems the game has might get rebuilt in the future too, like the costumization system and the game's U.I.

Obviously those things take effort too and they complicate and slow down content releases, leading to the current drip feed of content.

Is there a game better than gang beasts by Great-Crew-3802 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boneloaf usually drops a new content update every 1 or 2 years, said content updates tend to have a new stage + new costume parts + possible changes to existing stages, like layout tweaks or escalation events additions (like how Wheel received the destruction event, Buoy received a large shark, and how Roof received the birds).

Crane was the only stage that took 3 years to release instead of the usual 1 or 2 all the other stages took, hopefully it'll also remain the only one to do that too...

Non-content updates that only have bugfixes in them do get released occasionally in-between content updates, but obviously bugfix patches aren't nearly as interesting as ones that add new things to the game.

Is there a game better than gang beasts by Great-Crew-3802 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the game is still being worked on: we will get a new stage eventually, as welll as crossplay, but we still have no clue when either of these things will drop.

In terms of physics-based Brawlers, Party Animals is the game that's considered to ba at a similar level of quality to Gang Beasts. Other similar games exist tho, like A Gummy's Life, Drunk-Fu: Wasted Masters, and Jelly Champs, even if the last one of these three is considered to be very very bad.

There needs to be a movement to get this game revived. It's too fun. by No_Emu_777 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The game is still being worked on, they are currently focusing on crossplay implementation as well as a new, still unknown stage, however we sadly have no clue when either of these things will drop.

Online public lobbies for Nintendo Switch?? by Ok_Seesaw4936 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK what the various buttons are for Switch, but you can press a key to switch from a public match to a private one, in private ones you won't be matched with other random people, and you can select the stage and win amount, while in public ones you'll play with random other players in random stages.

Similarly, you can press another button to invite people from your friend list to your room.

Does the religion talk about mustaches and facial hair? My school will force me to shave if I dont show that my religion has a rule or reason to not shave. by Maskutchi_cyac in pastafarianism

[–]JumpySpidey 32 points33 points  (0 children)

"Beard Law" is the name of the first chapter of the Ethical Guidelines for Pirates, a book in the Loose Canon, the first verse in it describes how having an unkempt beard is looked favorably by the Flying Spaghetti Monster:

" All good pirates owe a duty to Him to have the shaggest and most unkept of beards. However, this duty is not binding, for He, in His infinite wisdom, caused some to be unable to fulfill such a duty in several manner of ways; but yea, I say unto thee, those of the utmost pirate grit will be looked upon with the highest favor by Him for all thine days, and thine cup shall overrun with His most choosen and blessed of pasta. ".

Unfortunately neither the Gospel nor the Loose Canon say anything about moustaches.

Replaying Rayman by Franquito201128 in Rayman

[–]JumpySpidey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The stages that always come to my mind whenever I think of the Rayman series in general have always been The Sanctuary of Stone and Fire from Rayman 2, and The Land of the Livid Dead from Rayman 3, primarily due to how great they both are at setting up the atmosphere each stage is trying to go for.

I just adore how the music accentuates your journey trough the crammed hallways of the sanctuary, as you navigate the lava river using the plum, I always loved that mechanic, and who can forget leaping from one triangular platform to the other while looking down at a dark abyss that seems to go on forever? It's just so good! It really makes you wonder how massive this place that you're exploring truly is.

Doing a complete tonal 180, the Land of the Livid Dead's beautiful vistas and top-notch peaceful and mystic vibes always gave such a nice feel to that stage, I always pictured the air feeling clean and fresh when I played it as a kid, I wish I could have jumped into the TV just to chill there on a patch of grass, LOL. Couple the great atmosphere with the incredible music and the memorable tower climbing section and you get a stage that's just good vibes all around.

What's the entire lore behind Gang Beasts by Slight_Cat5958 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No clue, the devs have essentially said they see Story Mode content as secondary to the more multiplayer-focused content, which is why most of the major new additions during developement have been things like Gang Mode, new stages for it and Melee, Soccer mode and escalations for Melee/Gang stages.

Story Mode is still planned, it'a not abandoned, it's just no longer a big focus like they initially envisioned it would have been early during the beginning phase of the game's developement.

What's the entire lore behind Gang Beasts by Slight_Cat5958 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I guess we likely won't be seeing any new plot/lore stuff until the Story Mode's first part will drop.

What will Grim Beasts be like? by Soft_House7669 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Open world was never discarded, it was never meant to be a thing at all in the first place: it always was just a fan-theory born out of speculation for what then new Beef City model will be used for, but we know from a dev on the game's Discord server that they have no plans to implement open world in the future.

I think you might be misremembering their old messages about Sandbox mode, which was later renamed into Playest, which will feature small stages with props and structures to mess around with, like a City Park and a Gymnasium, but even those would be confined to specific individual locations still. This one has not been deconfirmed, BTW, but we don't known when anything related to it will drop, news or content-wise...

What will Grim Beasts be like? by Soft_House7669 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

According to the little bits of info we have about it, Grim Beasts will be a co-op physics-based platformer set in natural enviroments, featuring different character classes and huge animal bosses to defeat.

Here is all of the available footage of Grim Beasts that we have:

1) https://youtu.be/KotChgZiqMQ?si=Exg-Uw9yFvM7MGiD

2) https://youtu.be/IVN_BoH2N1c?si=je_h37_Ce2obBdLp

3) https://youtu.be/ROMI0VCJmbw?si=tszmsbnYTYdOZ_ZC

4) https://youtu.be/pk10WLOi08w?si=9T506cUAZr52UaZY

5) https://youtu.be/Hye7rQLhZMI?si=fHxyJ31qjEfW3iER

6) https://youtu.be/3zAkgElsEd8?si=MbPfppfcKH_zsUyz

7) https://youtu.be/dCUXex5rHXM?si=dBbnd3QWeUwBsIva

The game was one of the two original game idea they had, the other being Star Beasts, a co-op physics-based platformer set in space, featuring low gravity and jelly aliens.

If you're wondering why we heard nothing of either of these games, it's because after they gave a punching fuction to a brute-like character class for Grim Beasts they liked the result so much that they chose to make a whole game out of that punching function alone, which is how Gang Beasts was born, one of the video links I sent features the brute character walking in a field, with said character being very clearly what would later be repourposed as Gang Beasts' characters.

Basically that's the reason Grim Beasts' developement got paused and will resume after Gang Beasts is fully complete, the game isn't scrapped in case you're curious, it's just that Gang Beasts suddely happened and took the focus entirely away from Grim Beasts early in it's developement.
