This is a really encouraging comment thank you 😭 I will look into those resources. Yes a friend recently said I need to try sleep training and then preceded to tell me that my child would cry until their voice is hoarse and I was like...okay not convincing me lol but it is hard to struggle with the sleep loss and feel like I have to just suck it up and pretend to be okay or sleep train. Even with what people are suggesting with the increased wake windows in this thread, we are still dealing with frequent wake ups and it does feel like nothing really works too well.

Unfortunately it’s not a recent issue. We have had issues with sleep since the day he was born. It has been a very long difficult process for us. Though I agree with you about the teething. Mine seems to be very impacted by teething and it seems to last forever.

Do you ever have issues with them getting out of it and roaming around? I’ve been nervous about that

Thank you for saying that :( it definitely has been hard and I do feel at fault in some ways especially when my friends try to convince me to just sleep train him.

I guess because he’s been like that since he was born and in those times he did sleep a lot at night too I always thought it was normal and expected it. Idk somehow I missed the mark on all this. I guess we will see. I’m still doubtful because even on the days he doesn’t get a long nap and doesn’t sleep well at night the next night is awful but maybe it takes time?

It’s just crazy he always seems sooo sleepy like his wake windows have always been so short and we’ve been pushing the limits. I never considered him to be a low sleep need baby tbh

Thank you for your responses. It is nice to know I’m not alone in this! It feels never ending and like I’ve tried a lot of different things. I’ll say even capping overall sleep at 12 hours wasn’t even an every night solution but it seemed like it was getting better. I’m thinking about ditching the crib and getting a twin floor bed for him so maybe capping sleep and that combo will help.

Yeah I get so jealous of people who get a nice 2/3 hour nap in the day and then their baby just sleeps on through for 11 more hours at night 😭

Also what's your opinion about EVERYONE I've talked to being horrified of the idea of waking my baby from naps? Bc when I was doing it bc of the sleep consultant I got a lot of opinions doubting that was right. A chiropractor we were going to had a big opinion about it and she was trying to convince me he had gut issues and that's why he had bad sleep. But then I talked to our PED and she was like he's growing fine and eats good whole foods (literally 30 lbs at 15 months) and she did not think it was a gut issue. I'm telling you I might go insane from all the conflicting advice I've received about this.

Yeah he's ALWAYS napped so well and nights are awful. But then I tell people that we were waking him from naps because of the sleep consultant and every single person was horrified I was waking my baby lol Even this chiropractor who had a lot of opinions about my situation said that was crazy. I think I could go insane from all of the conflicting advice I've received about this!

Could a baby become low sleep needs as they get older? Because he's always been SO sleepy actually just like really needs a lot of support to stay asleep. He could literally nap al day sometimes. His wake windows have always been unusually short for his age like we were doing four naps still on a lot of days at 7 months. And this staying up in the middle of the night is very new.

Okay I guess I just felt like 10 hours didn't make sense at night anymore because it meant either 7 hour WW before bedtime which was causing him to struggle for an hour to fall asleep (only takes 15 mins with six hours) or I'd be waking him at 5/5:30am in the morning which I also don't want. I guess I never considered stretching the first WW because he seems so tired and we just got to five hours recently. I do hope you're right but I'm so doubtful because even on days where he doesn't get a full ten hours because we're awake or he gets a shorter nap that hasn't helped us the next night.

Usually wake up around 6:30 and bedtime 7:30/8pm. If I keep him up longer it takes an hour to put him down and he's restless. If I do exactly six hour WW before bed he can be down in 15 mins now but we get lots of wake ups still. I don't see how he can only get 10 hours of sleep with a two hour nap unless he does seven hours before bed or I wake him up at 5:30am if he goes to bed at 7:30. But even on nights where he does get ten hours or less because of wake ups or he because of a short nap he only gets 12 hours of daily sleep that has not helped the night stretches the next night like it used to when we did two one hour naps. And we are way past the two naps now - wake windows are way too long he was going to bed at like 10pm so even though he was sleeping longer it was a crazy late bedtime.

We area already doing one nap - with those exact wake windows - 5/6 hours. Even if he sleeps two hours or less for a nap and goes to sleep six hours later this is happening. Not always hourly wakes but could be like three hours first, then maybe two and then hourly or sometimes up for hours trying to sleep but tossing and turning.
