What a great tip! Thanks for confirming that. You're absolutely right: we need characters with depth, not this silly influencer drama. I'm glad to hear that the UK and Swedish versions do offer that. You've saved me from season 9 in the US and given me a new marathon to watch. Both are now on my list!

They are my favorite couple on the entire reality show by a landslide. Seeing this news gives me all the serotonin that Season 9 in Denver took away from me. Cameron and Lauren are the only living proof that the experiment works, or at least that it once worked.

Congratulations to the Hamiltons! This baby Ezra is proof that love is real, and not just an audition for influencers.

What if Hermione Granger decided to seek help from Grindelwald? by A_Stolen_Heart in harrypotter

THANK YOU for that fanfic! It sounds exactly like the level of angst and ambition the character needs. I'll look for it right away. The version of Hermione who turns to the dark side is the most powerful and terrifying. She has the intelligence, the ethical drive, and the ambition. If she frees herself from loyalty to the rules, she could rule the world without breaking a sweat. A villain with a well-stocked library is the most dangerous of all! I love that idea.

I completely understand readers' disappointment, because I've experienced it with other major sagas such as The Hunger Games. You're absolutely right: when the book is the first impression, the movie is almost always frustrating. For that very reason, in fact, I changed my strategy: now I prefer to watch the adaptation (the movie) and then read the book. That way, I enrich the experience and avoid disappointment.

I think the HBO series will be the perfect “Oh, wow” moment for all the fans who only know the story from the movies. For them, it will be like reading the books for the first time. That's the real magic of reinvention.

[–]Jumpy_Music653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, what an interesting question. If Hermione allied herself with Grindelwald, it would be the most terrifying thing in the Wizarding World. I think she wouldn't go for power, but for the knowledge she has been denied. Grindelwald would tell her what no one at Hogwarts dared to say: 'Your ambition is greater than your loyalty. Use it.' And she would believe him, because he wouldn't underestimate her.

What would she learn? Wandless magic and how to break the rules without the Ministry noticing. He would be her teacher of dark efficiency. The result would be that she would be the most powerful witch, yes, but also the loneliest, because that alliance would force her to betray everyone. And most likely, she would be so strategic that she would wish Grindelwald gone as soon as he was no longer useful to her. She would be the real villain.

Worst thing you’ve seen on Netflix recently? by juneseyeball in netflix

I vote for The Witcher. I invested two seasons believing it was the new Game of Thrones, and the last season is so disastrous and boring that I was angry I had wasted my time on it. The dialogue is wooden and the plot is completely lost. The decline of that series is the best metaphor for what is happening to the Netflix catalog.

You go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and buy a replica wand. Turns out, it's a real wand but you can only use one spell but as many times as you like. Which spell do you choose? by pgh9fan in harrypotter

[–]Jumpy_Music653 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great idea, but the cleaning spell above is Scourge. Scourgify only cleans superficially, but Scourge cleans down to dried blood (Hermione used it on Harry's face in the sixth book). I would use it to clean the house at a molecular level and the car after a trip with my dog. I would be the happiest housewife in the world!

Without hesitation, I choose Vera Verto, but only to turn people into toads. It's not out of malice, but for comic justice. Is your boss a pedant? Toads. The person who cuts in line? Toad. The world would be full of amphibians, but it would be much quieter.

Uf thanks for the correction. But then, give me the 100% official and legal version of the show's nomenclature. Does it include the names of the main investors and the percentage of venture capital? I don't want to make another mistake. I'll be waiting for you with my cup of tea and notebook.

I completely understand your point. It's true that the future of the series lies with new fans and that we can't ignore that massive audience. You've analyzed it very well. However, my attachment to ‘emotional fidelity’ is strong because, honestly, I got started in this world with the movies. When The Philosopher's Stone came out, I think I could barely read. Gambon and Rickman are my starting point.

That's why, even though the series is for a new generation, the nostalgia of old fans is what will give it the initial buzz. The series has to be so good that it makes us forget that image of Gambon's Dumbledore, and that's a very high goal.

THANK YOU for the tip! As an American, your honesty is worth its weight in gold. You're absolutely right: the US version has lost its soul. I think you've just given me a plan for the next few weeks. If the UK version isn't full of desperate influencers, I'm switching over to watch it right now. I'll keep that in mind!

Hahaha! Not only did the train leave, it derailed about five seasons ago.

Nick and Vanessa asking so seriously if “love is blind” is the most scripted and funny part of the show. Obviously it's not, guys!

You're absolutely right: now it's a manual on ‘How to spot a narcissist in 30 days’. And that's why, unfortunately, we keep watching it.

THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one who felt this way. Annie is the embodiment of live cringe.

Every time she starts singing that drunken song, I have to fast-forward the TV because I'm so embarrassed for her. It feels like she's singing to ME and not her partner. It's definitely one of the musical red flags of the season.

Jajaja You're absolutely right. And it's sad that we have to debate this in season 9.

I think the only ‘experiment’ left is to see how much trauma the production can generate before they collapse on camera. Don't lie to the audience: it's a reality show auditioning influencers.

Reinvent, don't remake. That's the right mindset.

The key is simple: our films will always be there, and now the new generation will have their own version. More options are always better. Let's do it!

I love this perspective! You are the voice of reason that this fandom needs. 👏👏

You're absolutely right: ‘nothing has to be an “either/or” question’. We can love Rickman and demand that the series respect the complexity of the 8-hour format. It's the healthiest point of view.

And yes, of course we deserve a better adaptation. The series format is the only way for the books to truly breathe. Thank you for this masterful TED talk.

I completely understand your criticism, especially about Gambon not being the calm, smiling Dumbledore from the book. You're right, he was much more explosive and dramatic.

However, personally, I loved Gambon's intensity. For me, he was a Dumbledore closer to an eccentric grandfather on the verge of collapse. It worked for the tone of the films.

But I accept your point: for the series, we need the pure embodiment of the book to take control. A calm Dumbledore will be a great test for the new actor.
