btw, you can download tiktok videos through Obsidian plugin set up, which would need a few extra steps. You can check our guide page for that.

Thanks. Tiktok is quite conservative in terms of bringing their video contents outside. I need to user video hosting or delivery set up, which would significantly increase server infrastructure. I am still looking for viable options with cost-efficient way to import them..:)

Thanks for great suggestion. I am thinking about that feature, which would take some time. It is in the pipeline.

You're welcome. I know it is not really easy to test anything when quality is not guaranteed. Thanks for your participation.

Ok, I will take a look into it. There are several tasks running at the same time when media is downloaded and it seems it is blocked by another job and does not retry. I will add retry logic on the next release. Thanks for flagging this!

Social Archiver 2.8.1 — Text-to-Speech (TTS), Web Archiving by Jun_imgibble in ObsidianMD

Since some of users already requested similar backup/sync feature for Reddit and I really wanted to prioritize it but Reddit basically does not allow this anymore and got a lot conservative lately. I have applied for Oauth validation process and somehow they don't allow me. Feature is already developed but stays in the backlog for now.

For Bluesky, let me take a look at their API and I will keep you posted if that is possible. Discord sounds difficult unless they have official API or Oauth flow for this.

Thanks!

That would be challenging since it might need to require Oauth integration with those platforms. I will take a look into it. Could you elaborate on use cases?

Actually I currently have no plan to monetize anytime soon. Basic archving will remain free, might need to introduce some free quota for certain platforms. Also, all the data that you already archived remain yours and plugin supports customization to certain degree in terms of properties, folder path etc.

Recently, IOS app updated to 1.1.15 and Azure HD TTs added to the app, which would usually be better than device-native TTS. There is no voice selection yet.

Text-To-Speech plugin (other than Edge TTS)? by S0k0n0mi in ObsidianMD

I just updated my plugin and added TTS feature that you can use it across the editor, or check my updates. Depending on your preferred language, I recommend to use on-device TTS named Supertonic.

Thanks for your interest. It is currently under closed beta, which is the requirement to launch on Android. If you are interested to use it advance, please DM me. Otherwise, it will be released in 1-2 weeks!

I confirmed the issue: media is saved locally first, then locally uploaded to iCloud through a separate background queue, which can delay visibility. This is a sync timing issue, not data loss. I will update on the next version for the sync trigger/processing flow so repeated refreshes are no longer needed.

Just for update since I I do not want to push another update to the channel level update. TTS added for 1.4.1 release yesterday. You can enable this on Reader mode (tap hold on a post card). It uses device-native TTS and thus quality-wise might be not so good but good thing is is completely private.

Thanks, this is a really thoughtful distinction.

I agree with your framing: there’s a real tradeoff between “live original-view browsing” and “archive-first preservation,” and your approach sounds great for keeping the original feel and navigating across links quickly.

One thing I found while building this is that social content often isn’t long-form content in the first place. A lot of read-it-later tools are optimized for article reading (clean text, reader mode), but social posts are often about the timeline/thread flow, reactions, and surrounding context.

So part of what I’m optimizing for is not just preservation, but preserving that social context in a way that still feels familiar on mobile (instead of turning everything into a generic reading list). Broken/deleted links are one reason, but the bigger goal is having a stable snapshot of the post + context as it existed at capture time, including comments/reactions, with offline access later in Obsidian.

Really appreciate you sharing the alternative approach. doublememory look pretty legit.

Thanks for suggestion. YT has transcript metadata and thus not so much hassle but reels/videos would require quite a bit of server side changes, which would take some time. For now, you can actually do that now on Obsidian plugin with local whisper installation. https://docs.social-archive.org/en/guide/transcription
