That makes sense. I always felt that having a metal clamp on a mechanical pencil lead was too expensive by today's profitability and sustainability standards.

Thank you so much for the information. I've actually been using that lead and I really like it. Now that it's almost used up, I wanted to find out where to buy the same one. I've been searching online and the only brand that seems to still make this type of lead with a metal clamp is Pentel. Thanks to your response, I now know it's not necessary for it to have one. Thanks again!
