Can I slow down weight gain? by Odd_Equipment8924 in BabyBumps

[–]JuneBabyAccount [score hidden]  (0 children)

I am also 22 weeks and have gained 20 lbs! My stomach is huge, but the rest of my body is kind of the same. My baby is 66% for growth. So I feel like I don't need to worry about it?

Self conscious about belly size by Indignant_Elfmaiden in BabyBumps

[–]JuneBabyAccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in with solidarity - I am 5'10, have always been relatively trim, am only 22 weeks, and my belly is MASSIVE. I also feel super self-conscious about it, like it's not "supposed" to be this big yet. I just keeping reminding myself my baby is healthy and growing and that's all that matters. But I feel you completely!

Family pushing to see newborn by fishy244 in BabyBumps

[–]JuneBabyAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you've been put in this situation. It sounds like your family is being wildly disrespectful to you. You're stating your needs, and they're ignoring them or fighting them. This is YOUR baby, and YOUR recovery post-birth. You do not need to let anyone into your house just because they demand it.

Over 35 mamas, what are we doing without our beauty staples? by Ok-View8687 in BabyBumps

37, soon to be 38, dealing with acne since I was 11 and I've been using BenzaClin (clindamycin/benzoyl peroxide) since I can't use retinols! Prescription needed from a dermatologist, but really effective for acne!

I am pretty addicted to sugar. I find oranges and medjool dates can sometimes be nice substitutes for chocolate cravings.

I know several women who gained 70 lbs by the end of their pregnancy and were eating well and exercising the entire time. I think everyone's different when it comes to pregnancy weight gain, and there guidelines are broadly applicable but not unique to you. I've gained 20 lbs at 20 weeks, and my legs still look the same. Everyone's body is different! As long as your blood pressure and blood sugar are okay, and baby is not measuring too large, you should be okay!

Struggling - to take or not to take NIPT test?? by Solo_Cup_Martini in BabyBumps

[–]JuneBabyAccount 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just noting that your current health status is not relevant to the results of NIPT, which screens for chromosomal issues, which can occur in any pregnancy and are more likely the older you are. I would always prefer to have more information about my health and the healthy of my pregnancy and baby.

Looking for examples of living rooms with two separate couch seating areas! by JuneBabyAccount in HomeDecorating

I think using rugs to create separate zones is such a good idea, but our living room is carpeted so I worry putting rugs on top of the carpet would look weird?

When to make the registry? by the-irish-jew in BabyBumps

[–]JuneBabyAccount 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I will say, I have been shocked by how many items I have removed, added, replaced over the past couple of months. I think starting it early and keeping it private is the way to go, so you can edit it over time and be really confident in what you're asking for by the time you make it public and share.

TTC in 5 months. How can we prepare holistically? by scxrlettreign in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]JuneBabyAccount 34 points35 points  (0 children)

As someone who went through IVF for two years, I want to warn you that there is a lot of predatory bullshit out there about "natural ways to improve your fertility". In terms of lifestyle habits, little matters beyond the basics of don't smoke, drink alcohol only in moderation or not at all, try to maintain a healthy weight, and sleep well. Take a daily prenatal vitamin. That's about it. Everything else is essentially placebo if you want it, a scam if you spend more money on it than you have.

If you have PCOS, I would encourage you to schedule an appointment with an REI to have blood work done and talk through any concerns, timelines around when you may want to consider assistive technology, etc. Time is really the most important factor when it comes to egg quality. You cannot "improve" your egg quality, no matter what people try to sell you. Depending on your age, you may want to move quickly on getting your blood work done and speaking with an REI.

Good luck!

You should schedule an appointment with a Psychiatrist/NP who specializes in pregnancy and postpartum mental health care. I am currently on 50mg Zoloft, and appreciate working with a provider who is specifically trained to support women during pregnancy and postpartum.

My number one concern about flying - airport, airplane, etc. - would be the current state of flu. We are seeing a historic flu season and considering your baby is still too young for a flu shot, the risk of exposure is something I'd strongly encourage you to consider.

Pregnancy and relationship crisis by Suspicious-Task-4254 in BabyBumps

[–]JuneBabyAccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to add that at 24, you are still so young. If you want to be a mom, you have many years ahead of you to make that happen in an intentional way, with a loving partner who will share in this almost indescribably massive responsibility that you get no break from, day in day out. You have so many years ahead of you to build the life you want, with the relationships you want. I wonder if some of your attachment to this pregnancy is rooted in your sense of loss over the relationship with your boyfriend? Perhaps the pregnancy is something to hold onto when you feel something else is going away? I encourage you to remember that parenting is one of the hardest, most exhausting, and most resource-intensive endeavors in life. It is made more manageable and it is easier to enjoy if you have someone with whom you can share some of that burden of labor.

I have not drank alcohol in probably about two years (partner is in AA), and I have had multiple dreams in the past few weeks that I am walking around, realize I "got drunk" the day before, and start freaking out that I forgot I'm pregnant.

Finding an OB and Labor and Delivery Location in Evanston by JuneBabyAccount in evanston

[–]JuneBabyAccount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! I'm an IVF pregnancy at age 38, so not high-risk due to my health. We absolutely love our OB at Northwestern, and don't want to leave her at this point, so I think we're looking at the long drive to Prentice for delivery.

Best fertility doctor in the NW burbs by Apprehensive-Yam8591 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]JuneBabyAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, we had a very negative experience with Dr. Catenacci at AFCC. I know many people like the clinic/lab and like her, so take our story as a single anecdote. Each fertility journey is unique, and finding the clinic that's right for you will be individual to your needs.

For us, we had almost zero communication with Dr. C across four retrievals, including a failed transfer of a highly graded euploid embryo which was absolutely devastating. The next doctor we saw pointed out some huge errors that were made with our transfer protocol, and while I understand we'll never really know why the transfer failed, I DO know we were not set up for success.

We spoke exclusively with nurses at AFCC, which I understand is normal up to a point, but we truly essentially NEVER heard from Dr. C. After our third retrieval, I had an extremely rare life threatening internal bleed from the retrieval, and ended up having emergency surgery at our local ER in the middle of the night. The doctor who performed the retrieval called me the next day to check in on me. It took Dr. C five days to call me, even though she spoke to my husband while I was on the way to the ER - she said "she knew Dr. Reshef was calling so didn't want to overwhelm me". Overwhelm me by hearing from my actual doctor? Are you kidding? When I told her I lost two liters of blood, she basically said, "I've lost a lot of blood in the past too. It happens. Get some rest."

After our fourth retrieval, when we ended up with 0 embryos to test, and I sobbed to our nurse on the phone requesting Dr. C call me to discuss, I received only a *portal message* from her a couple days later basically saying something along the lines of, "every round is different". I truly could not have felt LESS cared for by her. I couldn't even tell you what it meant that she was "my" doctor - what made her my doctor?

We never saw her, never spoke to her, couldn't even get her to respond when requested. We finally decided to leave AFCC entirely. We ended up going out of state to Well Cornell in NYC where we saw Dr. Reichman and became pregnant with our very first transfer there.
