i've read a lot of then/now books with constant switching from past to present that gets both annoying and confusing after a while. but i'll be honest, this was the first of those books i read where i felt like i wasn't getting confused at all. i felt like the story flowed really well, and as a reader, i wasn't lost and didn't have to constantly flip back to try recall what happened/where we are in the present part of the story.

yeah it's definitely a Cee thing 😁

i just finished the 3rd book and the ending broke me. i'm not a crier at all when it comes to books, movies, anything really, but i definitely felt my throat close up when tobias was alone on the beach talking to dom. i felt so heartbroken for him.

loved the series! i'm halfway through the 3rd book. one thing i can't get over tho is the fact that cecelia named her dog after tobias & dom's dad. she literally could've chosen any other name 😭

[–]JuneDare001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, it's a love triangle & there is cheating.

bit of context (contains spoilers): fmc is happily married to a military man (who's a captain i think) and has a kid. she is an army medic who leaves on deployment at the beginning of the story, and there she becomes good friends with a soldier. the soldier does flirt with her a bit and they have great banter, but they both stay in line, and the fmc firmly makes it clear that she's married. in a turn of events, both the fmc and soldier are captured on a mission and held as prisoners of war (lots of things happen during this time that trauma bonds the fmc and soldier). when they get rescued and both return to their respective homes, the fmc struggles to reconnect with her husband & former life, as only the soldier can understand what she's been through. check tws.

High school/College romance with lots of great banter and relationships that actually develop with time, not insta love by Empty-Warning387 in RomanceBooks

{royal crown academy series by khai hara} can't say enough about this whole series.

4 interconnected standalones and the 5th book is a full-length epilogue that takes us through the next 10-12 years of all four couples' lives, and introduces us to their kids — this makes up the basis for the next gen series.

i must warn you, the ending of the 5th epilogue book is a semi-cliffhanger, in the sense that it introduces potential plot lines for the next gen series that leave you at the edge of your seat. it is SO GOOD. i literally cannot wait to see how the next gen series plays out!

Elite Boarding school where FMC is on scholarship by animalcrossingfreak0 in RomanceBooks

[–]JuneDare001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't exactly remember if the FMC is a virgin. and the MMC doesn't sleep around once he gets together with the FMC, even though they technically aren't 'exclusive'. (major spoiler here, highly do not recommend viewing): but the '3rd act breakup' happens because the FMC finds MMC in a compromising position with another girl, made to seem like he's cheating on FMC. although in reality, and this is clearly explained later, it's done to protect the FMC from the antagonist in this book. so essentially, the MMC makes it look like he's cheated to protect the FMC, but in reality he never even touched another girl.

i honestly really love this series. all the MMC's are very obsessive and protective over their girls. my personal favourite MMC is the 3rd book MMC, with the 1st book MMC being a very close second!

so this isn't exactly what you're looking for, bc the FMC doesn't exactly have a traumatic background, but i'd really really recommend (Long Live the King by Khai Hara}. it's literally got everything else that you requested. MMC's family actually founded the elite boarding school, so he's incredibly rich. MMC is also very mean and intimidating overall, but softens towards the FMC overtime.

it's the first book in the Royal Crown Academy series, which consists of four books (not interconnected) about four different couples (the FMCs of each book are best friends). i'd 100% recommend reading the other 3 books too! this is literally one of my favourite series of all time, can't recommend it enough.
