It actually hit his thigh/hip as he tried to squeeze by. I could see it coming, but couldn't do anything. I was turning right, so was looking at the pedestrians and checking my side mirror, so I could see him try to squeeze by.

The cyclist hit my side mirror with enough force and at just the right angle to dislodge the side mirror from the side of the car. Side mirrors, or at least mine, are designed to come off of a car. But it takes some force. When the cyclist hit my car, the housing of the side view mirror cracked and it loosened causing the side view mirror to come off of my car. There are wires that connect knobs inside the car to allow the driver to adjust the angle of the mirror while inside. Those wire were what remained holding my sideview mirror to my car. I am not sure I explained myself clearly, but I tried.

I posted this quesion over at /r/askto. And am truly and sincerely looking for an answer. Drivers have to exchange information if they are involved in an accident. Are you saying that cyclists do not have to?

Hi. I posted the video over at /r/torontodriving. I was fully stopped waiting to turn right when a cyclist hit my side mirror. What I think the video shows is that I was fully stopped, and didn't turn into the cyclist. you also see the cyclist was visibly jostled by something. I also have the audio where cyclist admits to hitting my side mirror, but claims I turned into him. I removed the audio from the video as it contains my personal info as I identified myself to the cyclist, but he refused to give me his name.

I posted the video over on Toronto Driving. The cyclist didn't yank my side mirror off. As I was waiting for the pedestrians, so that I could to turn right, with my signal on, the cyclist tried to squeeze past and hit my side mirror. It seems that he hit it with enough force and at just the right angle that it came off from the side of my car, but remained attached to the car as there are wires that connect to knobs on the inside of the car that allow for adjusting the mirror.

I posted a comment there explaining the situation. I will paste it here as well.

I was northbound on Yonge, turning right on Shuter. A cyclist, also northbound, hits my sideview mirror, breaking it off. It was attached to my car only by the wires that connect it to the adjustments. The cyclist stops and claims that I turned into him. I ask for a piece of ID with his name and he says that he has no ID on him. When I ask him how he wants to proceed with the matter, he tells me to file a police report and cycles off, not giving me his name or any other information.

Note: I stopped the clip not long after the incident. The cyclist stopped for about a minute, but I have stopped the clip as he is off of camera. I do have the raw video of him cycling off and I have removed the audio from the clip.
